Windows sometimes work 97 Accord
Just curious if anyone has experienced sporadic issues with their windows...
My driver window doesn't work and passenger front window doesnt work. The rear windows usually work, but sometimes I need to have the driver door partly open for it to work.
Is it the switch in the door? the harness? or something else? I am unsure what to even start with

I cleaned the switches based on the video (not with a brillow pad, but paper towel and flat head). It was covered in dark gunk. I cleared them all out and tested it - Same issue persists but now the driver window works sometimes haha.. What the heck could it be??

If opening the door a bit makes them work - I'd look at the wires going thru the door jam to see if any are broken or not seated all the way.

That may have been a placebo and just coincidentally worked a couple times because now it doesnt. I am going to try the switches on the other doors. if those work I will assume its the master switch but am going to see if i can jump the harness to test them before i go buying stuff.

Check where the harness goes through the door. Thats a common fail spot. Thres a rubber boot that covers it, when you get teh wires exposed, check them really well.

If they are all narly looking, do you recommend buying a used harness and trying to fiddle with it through the small hole/boot? Or is it easier to just wrap all wires?

What you can do to find the offending wire is trace it back to the door, unplug them. Best if you have the wiring diagram to see what colors go where. Anyway, then use a DVOM check on both ends of the wire, make sure you have good continuity. Pay particular attention to the wires that power the front windows. Normally though a good visual inspection can help you see if anything is amiss.

I would still give the steel wool a try because paper towel won't scratch the metal contact as well, make sure you do both the little "V" looking pieces and the contact itself.

Welp.. I have discovered the fuse keeps popping to the back window. Which seems to be directly related to this. I havent had anytime to really dig in plus its been hot as ***** outside. I may consult a real mechanic (my neighbor possibly) - way too impatient.

Does anyone have a diagram of how the wiring harnesses for the windows are routed? I am going to be digging in looking for the short/ground issue that keeps blowing the fuse. Your help is GREATLY appreciated!

Bump - anyone have a diagram or anything showing where/how these wires are run in a Sedan? I don't want to rip up carpet or door panels without having a clue lol

Don't take this the wrong way but it isn't that hard.
Pull the boot over the wires in the door jam. There is a plug on the door, that is where the two come apart.
One section of the wires is "inside" the door - the other section goes to the under dash fuse box.
Your issue sounds like it is in the section of wires where they come thru the A pillar and then connect to the door. So pull the boot off the door, disconnect the harness from the door. Remove the boot from the A pillar, if memory is correct the boot will then slide off. Inspect the wires in that area - again it soulds like that is where your issue is.
EDIT: Ok, not enough coffee this am - A pillar is from the dash to the roof, so not quite correct but you should understand what I was tring to explain.

Yea i have a few electrical gremlins in numerous sections of the car. I think I am going to need a certified mechanic to figure this out. Now my radiator fans I discovered don't work!

Re: Windows sometimes work 97 Accord
Just an update - i did inspect the wiring on the driver door - none looked damaged. Under the dash the interior harness has a few cut wires. I have a new dash harness and a new front passender door harness (which has 2 cut wires). Slow progress but it's coming along
