starting issue... HELP
Ok car is a 94 5 spd lx coupe. 100% stock.
Sometimes when i get in the car i turn the key and starts up first try, other times all i get is click. Turn the key again, click. And this can go one for 5-6 tries.
Now when this happens the lights/radio dont dim or anything so i dont believe it to be battery/battery connection related. Maybe clutch engagement thingy under the clutch pedal?
Any ideas guys? Thanks!

Re: starting issue... HELP
check the starter, its right under the distributor on the left side of the engine. Hit it with something a few times and see if it helps start the car.. if it does then replace it

Where do you hear the click? If its the starter that means the starter solenoid is going bad, and the starter needs to be replaced. But if its a click inside the car, that means the starter relay is bad. Or like you said the clutch switch might be bad. You can bypass the clutch switch to eliminate that question.

If you hear the 'clicking' (however) when you turn the key, the clutch override switch is working.
More than likely the heavy duty switching contacts in the starter solenoid have burned/worn over years of duty and are no longer up to the task.
Unfortunately the solenoid is not serviced separately.
You will have to replace the starter.

Old thread revival....
I am having a similar issue except i dont hear a click or anything except a short hum which i believe is the fuel pump. If i go and tap the starter then it will crank but since lately that barely works. Now this may sound like an obviously bad starter but this is my third one in 4 months. They have all been from autozone though and my next move would be to get a Honda one(also heard good thigs about the napa ones). I am broke and it will be hard for me to find the money for it so i wanted to make sure all bases were covered first:
1)Ignition switch already replaced
2)Battery terminals checked
3)starter properly grounded
Any input or similar issue?
