Default What to look for when buying a 1994 Accord?

I'm looking for a cheapish reliable car for my daily driver, and found a 1994 Accord LX Coupe. The lady showing to us was a polite Asian lady, but she bargained hard. Got her down from $3300 to $2900.

Now, the problems. Mechanically it looks sound, and we're going to get it checked out tomorrow. The issue I felt was that if you're starting from a stop or very low speed, the exhaust kind of rings beneath the floor. She said its something that just developed.

Cosmetically, it has a few dings and stuff. The bumpers have suffered some punishment, probably from living in downtown, and there is a biggish scrape on the passenger's side behind the door where she says she scraped a pole. The metal is kinda dented and pushed in a little bit.

Cosmetically we could've gotten better, but the interior was well kept and it looked like a nice car, so we finalized for $2900, depending on the mechanic's OK. Did I do well? It seems that most 94-95 Accords are in the asking $3600-3800 ballpark so we thought its a good discount for the cosmetic issues.

120k on the engine, auto shifts fine, power locks and windows, moonroof (don't Accords come with a pull-forward opaque fabric thing? Every other moonroof-equipped car I've driven has that), a CD player and new tires to round it off.

What do you think? or

What should I look out for when I go to get it inspected?

You can find a much better deal somewhere else. She is asking too much money.

You really think so? All of the decent condition 94-95 Accords around here are like $3700-3800. I saw a 94 with 114k asking $4500, he came "down" to $3825 and then told him to go pound sand, there was a 95 with 135k asking $3800, got him down to $3500. These were both 4DR's, but I have no preference, in fact I prefer the 4DR.

EDIT: Also, its got 120k, what's the timing belt interval on these, is it an interference engine?

I'm going to go with MooGo on that one, there's a '96 v6 sedan here in richmond area that's going for like 4000? with 140k miles on it and it's in really good condition. It may just be your area, kbb that and see what it'd be, 3k isn't complete rape, but it's close to it

I believe that the timing belt interval is at the 105000 service but it seems that most people with 5th generation accords change them at around 90k. Time is also a factor but if the car you are looking at hasn't been changed I would try to make her drop at leat $500 dollars off her asking price as you will be driving around time bomb without changing that belt.

As far as the price goes it really depends on your area. If the car is well maintained I would say that you are getting an ok deal though... sounds kind of beat up from your description. I don't think I would pay much more than 2500 though.

Finally you may be looking at an ex and not an lx. I could be wrong but I didn't think the moonroof was an option on the lx. If it has a f22b1 and 4 wheel disks as well as abs you have an ex.. which is nothing to special except you get sohc vtec!!
