Default Unusual Camshaft Leak Problem

Hello.

This is my first post. Hopefully, I won't make a fool of myself.

I have read hundreds of posts on this site and would like to extend my gratitude for all the helpful guidance I have received from it's members.

_______

1990 Accord EX 4-Door 4AT - 234,000 miles.

I bought this car from my neighbor for $350.00.

I've replaced the Timing Belt, Balance Shaft Belt, Timing/Balance Tensioner, Front Balance Shaft Seal with a New Retainer, Rear Balance Shaft Gear O-Ring, Crankshaft Seal, Water Pump with new Crossover Pipe and Thermostat, Valve Cover Gasket, Plug O-Rings upper and lower, all new Timing Covers and Seals and a new Alternator.

The car runs well.

I have eliminated all the Anti-Freeze and Oil leaks. . .
except one that is giving me a terrible time.

It's from the front Camshaft Seal.

I replaced this Seal and it still leaked. After reading a few threads, I decided to use [very carefully] some HondaBond on the outside of the seal, where it mates to head. That process has relieved most of the oil leaking from the seal.

I realize that HondaBond isn't the absolute proper way to alleviate this problem, but it looks as though previous repairs left serious gouges on the outside of the Camshaft Seal matting surface; probably from someone trying to pry the Camshaft Seal out with a small screwdriver.

Now, I am getting oil around the Camshaft Gear Bolt.

It seems to be coming from where the bolt threads through the gear and into the shaft. The oil spreads out from the center of the bolt washer to the edges of the gear.

Can one of you esteemed, and much, much more experienced members please help me out?

Your help is very much appreciated.

If it is coming thru the bolt threads then there must be a "crack" in the cam "snout". Inspect it in detail for a crack. I'm sure you have but, you can run the car with the upper cover off, watch and look for the true source.

Hello.

I didn't think of that.

I will do exactly what you recommended and report back to the thread.

Thank you very much.

Hello.

The end of the cam was okay.

I think I found the problem. It's the outside surface that the seal mates with.

I am going to post a new thread with pictures.

Thank you for the help.
