Ugh hesitation.
Ok, so my 1990 honda accord was misfiring pretty badly, so I replaced the plugs and the wires, and since there was a lot of oil on my plugs, I went ahead and replaced the valve cover gasket too. Now, the plugs still get a little bit of oil on them it seems, but it's nowhere NEAR as bad. And I don't seem to be losing any oil either. Now though, if I rev my engine up, it'll rev like normal but once I step off the gas the rpm's will drop like normal until about 2.5k rpms. Then sometimes it sounds like something slightly rubs for a second, and the rpms abruptly drop the rest of the way down to the normal hot running rpm (about .5-.8 if I'm remembering right.) Now, when I'm driving down the road, and I'm in the lower part of a gear, around 2-2.5 k rpms in 4th gear, the engine has intermittent slight hesitation like it's misfiring, but it's not exactly a misfire...engine doesn't sound like it sputters, doesn't seem to change in rpm's, no gas smell from the misfires like before the valve cover change. Took it to a mechanic and he took a quick glance at it and guessed that the bearings in the air compressor were going out, so I went out and bought a belt to bypass it for the moment. Slapped the belt on, started it up.....and it's still hesitating right around that mark. Inspected the belt that was on there, and noticed both the power steering belt and alternator belt seem to have metal shavings in them. The only thing left that I know is bad on this vehicle is the speed sensor, since my speedo dies all the time and throws up a CEL and transmission safe mode which goes away when I turn off the car, so no codes it seems to read...I'm at a loss for what to do next, i'm just wondering why this all started after I changed the valve cover gasket..Any help would be appreciated, at least some ideas of where to look next..
