tdc sensor problem

tdc sensor problem
I have a 98 accord lx 4 cyl .that was throwing code for bad connection at tdc sensor. Guy at AutoZone said car doesn't require that sensor and told me to check connection under timing cover. Well after research I found tdc sensor was on distributor so I replaced the distributor and same result. Car is in some type of limp mode, it won't rev past 3000 rpm and like a rev limiter it won't go over 3000 no matter what.
The problems all started after hitting some puddles of water, I tried letting it dry out and unhooking battery all day but no luck, it's been four days and still in limp mode. I have to drive an hour just to work and now I'm out 250$ for distributor so any help would be appreciated because ill probably have to take it to dealer if I can't fix it. Car is also getting terrible gas mileage in limp mode.

CYP is in the distributor.
CKP/TDC are down on the crank snout.
If the problem happened after hitting a puddle then the CKP/TDC sensors may be covered in gunk, affecting sensor output, or the connector(that the Vatozone dude mentioned) may have gotten wet or knocked loose.
What was the actual P#### code?
Descriptions don't mean anything as they are usually wrong. Actual code is key.
