Default suspension advice

hey fellas my friend with a 95 accord ex coupe wants adjustable coilovers / shocks. but he's a cheap *** and is looking for the cheapest ones he can find. this is a street only car.

my advice was to get a spring / shock combo that gives a modest drop (1" max) and still give a compliant ride and not rub/make funny sounds etc. (H&R oe sport springs with some KYB shocks)

since he's dead set on the coilover/shock combo, can you guys recommend a decent set/manufacturer for him? he really wants the adjustability...i personally dont get it cause how many times are you gonna change the ride height? oh well.

unfortunately, ya get what ya pays for. Tell him he's better off just buying a spring set if he's concerned about bouncy-ness...

First off, tell your friend that he's an idiot.

Second, tell him you get what you pay for.

Some cheap stuff like Arospeed coilovers or some other ebay knock-off will be cheap, but they will suck. Shocks are expensive. KYB GR-2's are $50 each.

Once again, tell him he's an idiot.

what should he be looking to spend on a decent shock/coilover setup? 800-1400?

The ones I see look more like race only setups that would be way too agressive for the street. are there some decent street ones out there?

$200 for coilovers. $200-$300 for shocks (if he goes cheap).

check this out homeslice. For his budget he can get a lovely set of Apexi Worldsport full coilovers.

Or, for a lil less, do the tried and true Koni Yellow with H&R race springs. The Konis have 3 different perch settings and offer more vertical adjustment than one my think. On mine, I have the front set on the middle perch but with the perch inverted, and the rear all the way down. Take a peek:



I would recommend either my setup or the worldsports to your buddy. I had tokico blues with Ground Controls and I hated it. It made some crazy noises and rode like ****, the konis can be set to caddilac smoof, viagra stiff, and everything in betwixt.

we just found the world sports on a website and i said to go with that since they're street oriented.

That is the highest I have been in the past 3 years of me owning the car. I have never hit my oil pan. There is a crossbrace that hangs down the lowest and prevents anything vital from getting fuxored upon impacting the ground.

When I publicly disclose my desires for a product, in this instance about coil over shocks, I am not talking about a cheap fly by night imitation to put together by the yard tree mechanic. I am talking about the real McCoy, such as the A'PEXi WOLD SPORT COMPLETE COILOVER for 90-97 HONDA ACCORD. I would like to find a set of these items for a fair price. we spoke about it at lunch, he was leaning toward the H&R / Koni or KYB combo cause i told him it would be at least $300 less...but if he really wants the adjustability he'll go with the apexi WS.

Have him keep in mind the WS does not have a damper adjustment. Just height.

FalconGSR made a good point on cost and final results. A one to one&half inch drop would keep me closer to factory for drivability in Dallas, and give a clean appearance. Too low and it draws too much attention from the police and thieves. In addition, the money saved will go towards other maintenance items, e.g. bushings. Are your Koni's perch settings for height adjustment or damping? What is your exact setup and cost?

Are your Koni's perch settings for height adjustment or damping? What is your exact setup and cost?

Both. You have 3 perch mounting "rings" on the shock that give you about 3" of overall adjustment (coupled with the perch being able to work inverted), and then the dampning which I previously mentioned is adjustable from ungodly stiff to almost stock soft.

cost? oh man....ive had these for awhile and I recieved both at cost so......

Konis: $120 for both fronts, $90 for both rears
H&R race springs: $120
Suspension Techniques Rear Sway Bar: $100
Neuspeed Front Upper Bar: $100
Ebay rear upper bar: $30


soooo that was $560 for everything.

WHERE DO I SIGN FOR THAT PRICE? can u really get all that at that price?
i was looking and the setup i want would be around 550$ for springs and KYB AGX cuz it was the cheapest good setup i could find
help me with this, i like that parts and their prices
