Default stuck in park

my car got stuck in park today. i press the break still wont shift. so what i had to do is cut the car off and pull the e-brakes up and put and car in N and start. then i out in in drive. but when i put back in park get stuck again. i cut the car off for about 10 minutes started the car in got out of park with no problem. what can this be

Neutral Safety Switch

It sounds like that stupid switch that sits on the brake pedal may be going bad.

its probably the shift interlock solenoid. do you hear a click noise when you press on the brake pedal?

Yes, probably the brake light switch. The plunger on the switch may have deteriorated/broken off.

You can always replace it too.

i was not getting it i had to cut my car off put it in N the start the car cut it back off for like 10min then start back came out of park with no problem started to get the interlock

On the shift lever console you may find a little lid: if you remove it you can use a pin to manually override the blocking of the shift lever in P. This override procedure is also described in the owner's manual.
