so sylivana the cool blue bulbs tech said if i use these bulbs for night driving they will last me two years. Yet when i put them on my 97 accord dx they only lasted an year.

I had a set of Cool blues in my 96 for over two years. I only took them out because I replaced them with a set of PIAA's. I still have them in my parts box for spares.

I didn't run my driving lights during the day though. My DRL system was set up to run only my marker lights. maybe that's why mine have lasted as long as they have.

Is there a way to make my lights run all the time, except for when I shut off my car rather than using the switch?

Where there is a will there is a way, try bypassing the switch. I have never done it personally but it shouldn't be that hard to figure out.

If you touch the bulb with your hand you drastically decrease the lifetime.

If water is in contact you decrease the lifetime.

If you have a short you decrease the lifetime.

Here is a pic of a bulb that I removed from a buddies Accord. You can't see it in my pic but there is an oily fingerprint right where that bulge is on the left bulb. She was burnt, the one on the right was the same age and worked perfectly.

I just put a pair of them on my civic, aint nothing cool blue about them, they don't look as bright as I thought they would.

Well if you want your car to look like a BMW so much why don't you buy one. That way even you can run with real HIDs not fake ones?

Sorry I have a somewhat photographic memory. I remembered seeing a post of his a while back about how halogen bulbs were "Excellent" and now he's calling them fake HIVs only because hes got a HIV kit.....

The OP was asking why his bulbs didn't last. He never asked anything about HIV kits to begin with. I'm not a fan of people with improperly installed cheap HIV kits. A nice set of fake HIVs??(halogen bulbs) are rice enough.

I hate when people get HIV and don't install it correctly too. Those damn ricers.





OP: Why don't you try the silverstars? They have lasted me years and def. put out more light than stock. Much whiter too. Just don't touch the bulb, as said above.

dude most new cars besides bmw have hid, the regular non-hid bulbs are advertise simulation hid or just-like hid, etc. fake hid basically. and they do not look not nearly as great as the actually hid kit.

On my orginal post as was asking for what kilowatts to go with because i never had a kit before. and i didnt want the really blue color.

also how is the hid kit "suppose" to be installed? they only connect one way. are you refering to location, secured connections, etc?

also i was agreeing with the person who said go with hid. why blow money on fake simulation hid bulbs like silvania's , apc, etc. that will not last as long as true hid. if you want that color go hid.

Did you go to a garage and have your headlights properly aligned after you installed the HIV kit? That's what I'm talking about. Or people who run those Egay Non DOT approved Kits.

One other thing. Please stop referring to OEM replacement bulbs as fake imitation HIV's. You could possibly be confusing someone out there. They are simply halogen replacement bulbs. They are not trying to be nor ever will be imitation HID's. I have never seen PIAA, GE, or Sylvania advertise there bulbs as simulation HID, or just like HID. Maybe some guy on Ebay trying to sell them to some uneducated sucker

For those of you who like the HID's and are planning on making the switch. Make sure before you buy them that they are in fact DOT approved and you install them properly aligned. It could save your life or someone else's some day.

Right but as stated before the one guy bought cool blue silvanias i have to thinking they are going to give a cool blue color and is was close to the same color as stock. Theres plenty of cool blue hyper blue crap that people are buying to get that cool blue color like hids such as the Silvanias but are not, APC made hid-simulation bulbs that were sold at autozone cool lookin but last 2 months. And ive installed several other ones that said hid simulation or something along those lines sucking me at the time in and many other im sure..

My Point- Piaa, Silvanias, Phillips makes great oem replacement bulbs but dont get them expecting an HID (at the right Kelvin's temp) like color or cool blue etc. color. If you want that color get an HID kit. And save some cash on replacing OEM bulbs in the long run.
