SRS Light Staying On

SRS Light Staying On
I bought a 2000 Accord LX Coupe from a private party. We immediately took it to our local family-owned Honda shop that we've used for years to get work done to it. Got the car back several days later, and I noticed that the SRS light was not working (not sure if it was working or not when we test drove it) and that the steering airbag unit cover was misaligned. Now, the airbag unit might've already been misaligned when we bought it and I just didn't notice it, or the Honda shop took the airbag unit off to look at it and then didn't reinstall right. Anyways, I replaced the SRS light bulb (not sure if it's the correct one or not, but it's on now), however, it stays on. So, I disconnected the battery and then disconnected the airbag unit, then reversed the process thinking that maybe it would resolve the light issue...nope. I read others say it could be that it just needs to be reset, others say to get an SRS diagnostic done, or that it could be related to the seat belt wiring somehow. Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Re: SRS Light Staying On
You first want to read the code. Code will lead to where your problem is. You will have to find an SRS code list for your year.
You can then try resetting it the proper way after you get the fault code. Battery cable removal will not reset code. There is a specific way to reset it. If fault does not return I wouldn't worry about it.
I would imaging a 2000 has seatbelts in SRS circuit but when you get code you will know if that is your problem.
As far as the bulb I would make sure it is the right one. I wouldn't want to screw anything up by having the wrong bulb installed.
I just went through a SRS light issue on a 97. It was easy once I found jump locations to reading code and then resetting it. I am not sure for the 2000. So no use in posting how I did it.
Try searching the hell out of this site, its probably listed somewhere.
Hopefully someone else can give you some input on how to for your year.
