speed sensor question for 90 Accord LX
I've done some research on here and it's sounds like my wife's car may need a new speed sensor. The sport light starting flashing, followed by the failure of the speedometer, then the check engine light. The trans seems to be shifting fine for now. I took the car into Autozone, but they tell me they can't test a car this old (1990). Is there a test I can do myself without special equipment? From reading posts on here, it might be a couple other things, but more than likely is the speed sensor? Any help would be appreciated. Also, is the speed sensor something I could replace. If it's just bolted on the outside of tranny, I don't mind attempting it.
Thanks in advance!!

its fairly easy to replace on the manual tranny, no special tools needed, just a couple long wratchet extensions. I got a neew to me sensor for $40 from a junk yard.

Re: (smokin rubber)
I do have an auto trans. Should have mentioned that in previous post. I just want to be absolutely sure that's the problem. Just for fun though, I will call some wrecking yards to see about the cost for used speed sensors.

the light blinking and the speedometer problem are 2 different problems.... i would guess you speedo cable just poped out but you might just pull out the speed sensor and check it out all you need is a 10 mm socket to remove it
as for the blinking light i would say one of the shifter silonoids are bad and you might want to take it to a trans shop to have it checked out ... the silonoids are not that expencive but if you dont fix it and your tranny goes bad then your going to be in some trouble....
good luck

Re: (Stripped Honda)
I just got the code reading and it's a "17" which tells me a speed sensor. Shouldn't this be the only problem? Anyway, sure hope so because I'll be buying one from the dealer today for around $150.00. If anyone has any other advice, I'd sure appreciate it.

shifter soilnoids seem a bit extreme, means how he got the blinking light when his speedometer failed, and didnt before. yes its your speed sensor, there is not speedometer cable. yes that should fix your problems, remember once your done to clear the computer codes, by pulling the clock/back up fuse, or unhooking the battery for a bit. as for the procedure online, check this link.

Re: (desolate)
Des- I just found that link myself, which should help a lot. I'm trying to decide on an OEM part or order one online for half the price. Before I buy it, I need to reset the codes then drive and retest to confirm it. Thanks!!
