Snapped timing belt, 92 accord
hey whats up guys. I have a 92 honda accord with the SOHC 2.2L engine. While I was driving down the road getting ready to stop i hear a humming noise and then the car shut off. So when we looked at it at the shop the timing belt snapped, the timing belt was only 5months old. Now alot of older honda techs were telling me that I could probally get away with just replacing the timing belt with the chance of a blown head. Now other techs are telling me that if I'm lucky i bent some valves but most likley blew the motor. Now can someone please tell me what the hell is true and whats not.
.....By the way I did not hear any knocking or feel any vibrations like alot of people said i would have heard/felt and also the car trys to crank over from the bottem crank...

Go read this thread happening right now, should be very close to your post. Has pics too, you should have bent valves, you have an interference engine, putting a belt on (in time) and doing a compression test is an ok procedure, just dont waste time putting everything back together until a compression test and a leak down test are done.

Yep they rarely bend valves.

I bought my 91 Accord at 270k miles with a snapped timing belt for $125.
Bought a new timing belt, installed it, and did a compression test, voila, 175 psi across the board.
Replaced the rod bearings for preventive and it is still on the road with >300k miles.

Re: Snapped timing belt, 92 accord (AccordEX1991)
I just picked up a 92 with a snapped T belt and 226 on the clock. I hope I can do the same and it only be the belt.
