Default SIGNS of a BAD DISTRIBUTOR??

ok i've been having alot of driveability issues with this car but i wont go into detail because i think i've narrowed it down but just need to confirm.

car is a 90 accord exr stickshift. driveability issues are even starting to effect idle where it would dip and chug chug chug, and sometimes it stalls out completely. the issues while driving are jerking/bogging/surging/compression braking whatever the hell you wanna call it and it fixes for 15-30 seconds after restart where before it would fix for 3 or so mintues but its gotten progressively worse.

ok i took off one of the plug wires and connected it to a spark plug and watched the spark pattern for a good while the car was running in neutral.. when my idle gets weak and goes into chug chug chug mode the spark from the plug gets weak looking and doesn't fire as much... and then as soon as the idle goes good again the spark strengthens.

what do you guys think help a noob out lend a hand.

Just wanted to know what all did you do so far? Tune up wise?
If you take a spark plug wire, the chug-chug deal will start right away, since you running on only 3 cylinders.
If you havent done anything at all yet.
I would check your sparkplugs for any wear on the tip or dirt buildup. And gap size ofcourse. If thats all good check your wires (if you havent replaced them yet) spray some water on them and see if the engine will surge. Then I would check your cap and rotor for wear and tear. Remove the cap and look inside for any crazy wear on your terminals. Look at the rotor itself make sure its not burned up. Check your coil for any damage.
I would do all that before claiming that the distributor took a ****, lol.

bro i've already changed the rotor/cap, plug wires with NGK's, fuel filter, o2 sensor, ecu, and new spark plugs. this is a problem i've been struggling with for a while and mechanics have given me the run around and ripped me off to say the least. and when i take out the plug and it runs on 3 cylinders it doesn't go into chug chug mode at all right away.. sure it sounds weaker of course but idle holds steady at that moment so its unrelated to me pulling the wire out BECAUSE it does it even when its plugged in. the idle kinda bogs after a while regardless if its on 3 cylinders or not and when it does bog down the spark looks to get weaker and not fire as much... and then as soon as the idle steadys itself the spark gets stronger and more frequent. i'm pretty sure i'm suffering from a weak ignition/distributor?

and also not to mention when i took out the plugs to inspect them they have some black carbon coating in spots indicating a rich mixture/weak ignition...correct me if i'm wrong.

Check this link out. It may have some things you haven't tried yet. Good luck
