I recently acquired a 1998 accord ex v6 from an elderly couple who didn't drive it much, and it only has 14,000 miles on it. I know Honda recommends replacing the belt at 105,000 miles but this car is over 11 years old. Should I go ahead and get the belt replaced now or am I likely good for a while? thanks

Per the maintenance schedule it's like 7 or 8 years or 100kish miles

I'd change it (along with the other major service items) and all the fluids to be safe.

Oh, and I agree with the others about checking everything out. If everythings good to go then you have quite a gem of an accord on your hands (beside it having an automatic, but its still ready to go a lot of miles)!

Also remember to change water pump and seals and outer belts when you change your timing/balancer belt. I would also replace thermostat and flush radiator system at the same time. Also I would bleed the brake lines with fresh clean honda break fluid as well change transmission fluid. New fuel filter well worth the effort.

This may cost a bit of cash but not bad if you go online and get some rebates for oil and transmission fluid. I like to use Pennzoil Platinum Synthetic in all my cars. I would stay with Honda Transmission Fluid.

Good luck with your "new car". In 2006 my late dad left me a 1996 Pontiac Bonneville with only 18,000 miles and I changed everything so I would feel good about driving it anywhere. Now that is a good american car.
