Icon6 Seatbelt buckle caught, Door stuck

A friend somehow managed to get the buckle from the rear passenger seatbelt caught in the rear passenger door of my husband's 2002 Accord in such a way that it has jammed the door latch, so the door can't be opened - it also caused the door to lock, and it won't unlock. http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...es/emcrook.gif

How on earth can we get both the door open and the seatbelt out of it?

try pushing in on the back edge of the door while you open it with the handle. There is probably a ton of pressure pushing out on the latch. push on the back edge of the door so you don't dent it.

Thanks! We did that. Even using feet. The door is fully closed, and seems to be latched and is definitely locked and neither door handle has any effect.

Does anyone know a way to access and remove the latch while the door is closed? It looks like, if the front door is open, you could possibly remove the door hinges from the car, but I don't know if that would give any more access to the other end of the door than we have now.

It's tempting to leave it, and just make child #2 sit in the middle all the time, but it's kind of nice to have a bit of space between the kids, so we'd really like to be able to use the seatbelt, plus we worry about safety in an emergency, if the door won't open at all.

you maybe able to spray wd-40 into the latch from the door gap and lubricate whatever is binding. You would probably get it all over the belt though. I wouldn't recommend unbolting the door. That could turn ugly fast. if all else fails try to get the panel off the door with it shut. I'f remove the rear seat bottom first if you can get it out. also you may be able to try lowering the glass and reaching the latch with a long tool and seeing what you can do.

We'll try that. Thanks! It will be nice if the WD-40 works.
