Default Rear Caliper - piston boot re-install... HOW?

My rear calipers have the rotate-piston-to-retract feature. I'm replacing the rear brake pads and obviously, I needed to retract the piston so I could get the caliper over the new pads. As I was retracting the piston, one side of the rubber boot around the piston popped out of the groove between the piston and the caliper. I ran out of light trying to get the boot seated in the caliper and around the piston again. What's the right technique to get that pesky boot back into position?

It's a 1996, but this rear caliper style/type seems pretty common on Hondas and Acuras. The piston has a big + in the outside surface - I suppose for some special tool, but I've been able to rotate the piston with a square-shank screwdriver that I ground down.

The problem with the rubber boot seems to be getting the outer diameter of it seated in the caliper again. The hole in the center for the piston seems straightforward. I'm going to pump the brakes to move the piston out again and have another try at installing the rubber boot with the piston extended rather than retracted. But there's got to be some trick to getting this thing back on easily. It can't be this hard to assemble!
