This rattling sound is driving me nuts LOL.....98 Accord
I'm just ranting with this post i don't expect anyone to know what the hell is rattling
98 Accord. The rattle is coming from the driver side front somewhere and its driving me insane. I took it to a mechanic he told me it was my coil overs so i spent 800 bucks and got new springs, alignment, tires, everything. They put it on i still have this rattle. Im pissed so i go to another mechanic. He takes my car for a day and says its because im missing the plugs that fasten my fender lining on underneath. So i go to the dealer and spend like 40 bucks on these stupid plugs, i put them all on and the rattle is still there...... It happens when i go over a bump but not on the freeway only traveling around 20-30 mph and its pretty loud with no stereo on. So i jacked up my car i shook everything i could but no luck it all seems tight and secure even in under the hood.
So i know no one can help just by a description and im probably going to have to take it to another mechanic but they all just blame it on after market parts or they charge me a ton of money to find out what it is......
My question is, does anyone know of a way i can put my car on jack stands in the front yard and simulate hitting bumps so i can hear where the sound is coming from??? Maybe a peace of wood used as a lever that i jump up and down on would work HMMMMMMM. I'm just ranting with this post i don't expect anyone to know what the hell is rattling
UPDATE: i can feel slight movement in the clutch pedal, with it pressed all the way down in unison with the rattle. i also can hear the same rattle but almost silent from the passenger wheel area.

Hmm.. You should try shaking the door. Maybe there is a loose screw that fell off. It is probably causing the problem. If its not the door, let me know ill think of other things for you to check.

it could possibly be somthing with the down pipe. i had the same problem with my old integra and turned out to be the down pip twards the front near the CAT and it was rattling against those metal shields that cover the bottom of the car. between the top of the down pipe and the bottom of the car itself. im sure you know what im talking about...

With the front wheels up on ramps, the suspension is compressed to it's normal position. The shocks aren't extended all the way open. The lower control arms are in their normal position, etc...
If you're REALLY careful about how the car is positioned, you can get under & grab & shake things to your hearts content. You can shake the car so the suspension moves up & down in it's normal range of motion.
Be REAL picky about how the front wheels are centered in the ramps. Drive back down & fix it until you're happy. YOU are the one who'll be underneath if it falls off.
Set the handbrake and chock the rear wheels. Both wheels, 2 chocks on each.
Before you get underneath, grab the front bumper & shake it up & down as hard as you can. Just to test whether you can make the sound in the first place.

</TD></TR></TABLE> I have a set of ramps but im afraid they might be to steep for my lowered car, and will tear off my bumper. Its worth a try anyways, i will do it this weekend if no one else has any other suggestions.

Im not worried about that because i can barely hear it, but i know what your talking about

Put the car into gear (or park) without the ebrake on. Pop the hood and rock the car forward and back and watch all the mounts. If one makes noise or moves excessively, its probably junk. Good luck

My ramps have this funny pastic wedge you stick on it to extend the sloping part about 2x as long.
For that matter, maybe you only need to open the hood & push up & down on the fender. Listen from above, you may be able to pinpoint the sound without actually getting underneath.

Engine mounts usually make klunking sounds as the engine moves (getting on & off the gas). I imagine you wouldn't call it a 'rattle'. But maybe ???

Re: (JimBlake)
try rotating you tires, might not change, but worth a shot. are there any odd breaking sensations? lift the front tire, and tr to move it by hand back and forth, then up and down.

I tried lifting the tire up and down but i cant budge it lol im not strong enough. Im going o try bouncing on it tomorrow if it stops raining. As far as motor mounts i will check it tomorrow but it doesnt make the sound at all when first accelerating only going over bumps.
