Re: (Eddiebx)
try to crank the motor by the pulley, theres a slot in your driver side wheel well, stick in a 19mm and crank it.
if it wouldnt move, it's seized

does it crank over? If not you're screwed and you owe your friend a repair......
this is the MAIN REASON I DON"T LET ANYONE WORK ON MY CAR..........except the honda dealer. IF they mess up they gotta fix it..........

Things that are supposed to move can't.
Somewhere within the engine two components welded themselves together from the loss of lubrication.
I don't know how to affix blame here...
You for forgetting the o'ring, or your "friend" for failing to notice little "hints" like strange noises and that pesky "Engine Oil" lamp which came on.....

Re: **** I FUCKED UP WHILE OIL CHANGING (lv6l)
doode me and my friend fucked up an oil change too. i felt so dumb when i was done....
i was changing my sister's celica oil. when i was putting the filter back on, it didn't feel like it went in all the way. i asked my friend to double check it for me. well we got it on and everything and then we started the car to check the oil level. it kept on getting low so we kept filling that bitch up like 1/4 of a quart at a time. when we were done, i looked under the car to look for my tools, and then i saw a pool of oil. i felt so dumb. i wish i had done this at my shop rather than my house. it would of been so much easier to clean up.

Hah sounds like a familiar problem a buddy of mine had on his 2003 Mitzu Evo and he took it to the track because he had changed his own oil and forgot the oring well turns out when he took it to the track engine welded its self one of the pistons had welded to the side of the cylinder wall and had to replace it so hope it didnt blow

ouch... only person that has ever changed my oil besides me... is my dad. well, usually he helps me whenever I'm the one doing it too.
that aside, sorry man, that sucks. Sounds like you owe someone an engine.

As a continuation to this conversation, and an answer to a question yet asked.
The engine's pretty much toast. Depending on what may have siezed, there may be some salvagable pieces, but as will be mentioned as we go along; the quickest and cheapest way to get thru this is to install a used engine.

Out of curiosity, what is this o-ring that the original poster mentions?
I’ve changed my Honda’s filter/oil for a while now and can’t picture an o-ring. The only thing that I can think of is if the filter wasn’t put on tight and leaked.
Edit: Unless there's a brand of filter out there with separate gaskets - the filter's I've used (Honda brand and, in the past, Fram) have all had the gaskets attached to the filter.
And this kind of reminds me of my friend’s wife’s Ford Taurus. She told him that the “Aladdin’s Lamp” was lit up on the dash, a couple of days after it came on. It was dry and the engine, while not seized up, was really messed up. Hasn’t been driven in months.

I'm on the same page with this guy. From the way you describe it... it sounds like you're re-using the filter and simply changing an o-ring

I can't see the old oring staying on the engine (not comming off with the old filter). Maybe if you don't put a light coat of oil (like your supposed to) on it before installing it. I always change my own oil. Not very difficult, especially after you've been doing it for 25 years, every 3,000 miles.

Re: **** I FUCKED UP WHILE OIL CHANGING (BLKFLSH)
It's a condition called double gasketing. The old oil filter's base gasket cements (sticks) itself to the engine block, and is left behind at the next oil filter change.
If it isn't caught b4 installing the replacement filter, two rubber seals will exist where only one should be.
The danger arises from the second seal not being supported by the filter base lip. Unsupported, it can't contain the oil Psi, and is prone to being blown out.

OK, thanks. So it looks like the lessons here are to: (1) use quality filters; (2) double check the filter when you take it off to make sure the gasket is still on it (that is, not stuck on the engine); and (3) always put a little oil on the gasket of the new filter before putting it on.
The only thing is, from the original post:
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">...forgot to take off o ring on filter and put new one on...</TD></TR></TABLE>
It sounds like, from this, that his method uses separate o-rings (gaskets) and filters. Weird.

I work for toyota and when i first started workin there, i was really busy and I actually forgot to put an oil filter on the car, and when i turned the car on it sounded like someone was takin a **** under the car. I didnt fry the engine but ALWAYS check everything twice =X Even for something simple as an oil change, good luck man
