Default Radio/CD Player Help

This mornin, my dad uplugged the battery in my car because of a check engine light that didn't come on until this morning. Because the ECU was reset, I now need a code for my radio/cd player. Supposedly, I was given a card with that code on it when I bought the car, but I didn't get one. The original dealer doesn't have the code on file. In order to get the code, I would have to take out my radio/cd player, and the code is behind it. I have an appointment for next Monday at V.I.P. Honda. So I have to last a week without entertainment when I'm driving. Can anyone give me any help in trying to find the code? I was even considering trying each of the thousands of code variations until I got it to work.

You mean driving your car isn't enough entertainment?

I doubt they would write the code on the back of it....that would make no sense if the code is for anti-theft reasons....

I could be wrong but if you weren't given a code, a default code may have been used, like 0000. Then you can change the code to whatever suits you.

i think they have a code in the glove box.

if you brough the car from the dealer, go there and tell him to
give you the code for free.

take out the radio(very simple) and let them see the code in the back, they can give you the code in 1 min.

remember bug them until they give that to you for free.

I called up the dealer I bought the car from. They said they wouldn't have the number, but the original dealer might have it on file. Called them up, and they don't keep the codes. Apparently, the code is marked in the back of the compartment for the radio. So if I were doing it myself, I would have to use Play-Doh, or Silly Puddy in order to make a molding of the number. I was playing around with the codes earlier. You can only enter 10 different codes before it won't let you enter any more codes for a certain amount of time.

take out the radio and take to the honda dealer and they will give you the code... all they need to put is the serial number of the radio on the computer and it gives you code. But you need to take out the radio and take to the honda dealer

$80 for the code that takes them 1 minute? Damn.

Of course, at least around here, Hondas are mainly purchased by white collar workers, many of whom are female and know nothing about cars, and trust the dealer. Hell, the wife of one of my co-workers just paid something like $400 for her 30,000 mile maintenance (on a '99 LX Accord, the same car I have except she has automatic, I have a manual). She takes it to the dealer for *everything*, her reasoning was that they knew how to turn off the maintenance required light (yes, I told her how to turn it off, she still goes).

Back to the radio, take it out and see if the code is written on it by some chance. Then either keep trying (and try disconnecting the battery to see if you can then re-enter 10 codes), try to talk the dealer you picked the car up from (stress that you really liked their service and will be looking again in a year or so for a new car...). If they stick to some crazy figure like $80, just spend a little more and pick up a new Alpine. Then keep playing with old radio in your spare time to eventually get the code, then sell it on ebay (with the code).

Update: My radio is now on its way to Honda. They will be repairing it once it arrives. The people at V.I.P. Honda tried the code, but it wasn't working. Said it had to be repaired by those at Honda, and should be there in a week, or so. Being charged $319 for the radio alone, but because my car is still under warranty, it will only be $100. Now, I will have a huge hole in my dash for the next few weeks, and will have nothing to listen to.

When i took my stock tape player out of my accord, There was a sticker on that little "tray" thingy that fits under the radio. It had 2 series of numbers on it, and one of those series of numbers was the code.

You have a '99 that is still under the 3 year 30,000 mile warranty?

Am I the only person with a '99 Accord that came with a radio that doesn't need a code?

My car has an extended warranty as far as I know. I believe I have a year, or so left on it.

Mine is a tape player (no code required), I added on an Alpine CD changer (trunk mounted), did the work myself. The Alpine CD changer was lot cheaper than the OEM changer, and the OEM cassette head unit controls it (the CD changer) just fine.
