Quick cv axle question/problem
My cv axle poped out of my manual tranny on the passenger side. can you look at this picture and tell me if the splines after the keeper clip is suppose to be smooth like in the picture or splined like the rest on the input splines before the clip? thanks alot.

Re: Quick cv axle question/problem
As long as you use a new clip and the main portion of the splines look good (which they do to me) then you should be fine. I'm assuming the tranny has alot of miles on it? I think they are worn from being in the differential and having high mileage on the axle/tranny. When you put it in with a new clip, make sure the axle snaps into the tranny fully and you give it tug outward, should only move a 1/16th to an 1/8th of an inch.
Now you say it...popped out..like on it's own? That is a major problem.

Re: Quick cv axle question/problem
I took a look at my old passenger-side axle (it's an mt 1992 accord, but I don't think it matters here). The difference in diameter between the main splined section and the end section is only about 0.3 mm, and splines also look pretty much the same.
I am going to agree with 92civlude -- you are going to need at least a new inboard joint; the thing is that it is this end section of the shaft that keeps the axle locked in (courtesy of the keeper clip); and with this much wear, no wonder that your axle popped out.
