Probably you only had one ignition wire. You need both hooked up to start the engine.

Ok, so we got it to work but we didn't use a relay. I'm gonna try and explain what we did so you guys can tell me if we should change anything. I'll draw a diagram out later.

So, what we pretty much did was run the Battery wire(white) to the kill switch. From there we ran it to 3 different switches. The first switch had the Accessory wire (white/black) and the IG2 wire(yellow) connected to it. The second switch had the IG1 wire (black/white) connected to it and the last switch was the push button which had the starter wire(black/yelllow) connected to it.

So to start it we just have to flip on the kill switch and the IG1 switch then hit the push button. Then once it starts throw on the accessory switch.

Anything wrong with this setup?

You did not do anything wrong for this connection and it should work. However, you can simplify the connection by: directly connect IG1 to the output of kill switch and remove the extra switch, connect the IG2 and ACC together to a switch and remove the extra switch. In this case, when you start, turn on the kill switch and make sure the ACC/IG2 switch is off and hit the push button to start the engine. After the engine starts, flip on the second switch to connect both acc and ig2 to battery power.

You have to remember to turn off the second switch to prevent ACC/IG2 from draining battery during start. You can add a reply to automatically turn the acc/ig2 on/off. What you want is: when the push button is pressed, the relay will cut off power from acc/ig2; when the push button is released, the relay will connect acc/ig2 to battery power.

So I'm having the same issue, it cranks but won't start. I have a switch set up for each of the two accessories, one for the ignition, and lastly a push button for the starter. Could you post a wiring diagram for how the toggle switches should be set up please?

If you wired everything correctly following mine and Audi's posts then simply put the key in the ignition, in the ON position and try the push button again.

The car started up once we had the key in. I can't believe its been so long since this original post, man do I miss that car.

This was not the final diagram we used for the setup because we did not use a relay. Link below is original post we used to draw it up. But Audi's post above is how we actually set it up, follow that as close as you can.

Ah thank you very much! The only difference im having now is that we lost the key for the car so im trying to figure a way around that. Yeah I didn't look at the date of the post until after, I didnt expect a response to be honest haha. Thank you very much!

Ok so I have a 98 crv bad key switch it works but won't start the car so I can just run a wire from the battery to the starter and a push button use the key as the acc switch ect. But the push button only to engage the starter correct? Once the car starts the factory key switch should function as normal like turn the key off the motor stops turn key on and press button car starts. Right?
