Power Steering Pump Problem
Hello, I have a 99 accord lx 4 cyl coupe 5 speed...the can has 140k on it and the other day when i turned the car on it started makeing a winning noise, the noise gets louder when i turn the wheel and the PS Res was low so i added fluid, this didn't help, also i drove the car around the block and when i came back and popped the hood fluid pushed out threw the top of the res...i think the pump prob. needs to be replaced but i want a few other opinions, also if i need to do this where is the best place to buy the pump without killing my self in price and where can i find a diagram on how to replace the pump...thanks

autozone has them for cheap and they will order it for cheap if they dont have one in stck i just bought my new alternator from them. if you have afriend who works on cars get him to do it on thing yu might need from a real mechanic is a flush of the system cause metal shreds get into it

OK, so the power steering pump is a issue at high miles on the '99 -'02 Accords. Autozone has them for HOW cheap? They good pumps. This was my previous post on thsi topic.
I have been very carefull every other oil change to suck the old Honda power steering fluid out of my '99 Accord EX 4 cyl. and replace it with Honda approved fluid. It was starting to get clearer. But today I noticed the gasket on the mating surface of the power steering pump is weeping. What can I do to fix it, can it be rebuilt?

Re: Power Steering Pump Problem (ThePurpleHonda)
I would check your other steering components and find the leak first that caused the PS reservoir to lose fluid first which caused the pump to go dry and damaged it. Next fill up the PS fluid in the reservoir and check to see what is causing the PS fluid become aerated, which may or may not be linked to the leak. Finally go and replace the PS pump (be sure to replace the o-rings from the hi side to the pump, and torque the bolts to spec) btw flush is a double edge sword thing: 1. you will get rid of most of the metal particles caused by the damage of the pump, 2. flush ps fluid may cause the sludge to break up from cracks on seals in hydrolic components causing more leaks.

Re: Power Steering Pump Problem (ThePurpleHonda)
i'm not sure if i need a new PSP or whole new rack. and yes autozone is much cheaper($98)
when my car is cold(264k miles btw with same PSP) when i try to turn i can feel a skipping in the steering but it only does it once upon the first startup of the day or when not warmed up. is the rack going or just the PSP. also there are no leaks and fresh honda fluid ....

Re: Power Steering Pump Problem
I know this is an old thread, but you might just need to replace the inlet O-ring on the pump. There is a TSB for it from Honda. If you do need to replace the pump here's a quick YouTube video I made showing how to do it with a rebuilt pump from O'reilly Auto parts:
