Possible Transmission Problem on 99 Accord
I have a 99 Honda Accord EX Coupe, V6, 3.0L and I'm thinking there might be a problem with the automatic transmission. When I give it gas, it will rev high with little power, then shift hard and jerk when it goes to the next gear. It does not shift smoothly at all.
Would this be a transmission problem? Would I need a new transmission?
Thanks for the help!

Would a non-Honda mechanic be ok for this. Honda said it would cost about $3500. A friend of a friend who re-builds transmissions said they could do it for around $2000...

Yah, just looking in forums and such today, it seems like this is a big problem with this generation of accord. And the dumb thing is, if I would have had this problem when I first bought it 3 years ago, I could have got it replaced for free. They were doing an extended warranty on the transmissions cause it is such a common problem...

I tried that route myself and I should have just paid Honda to do it..........fool had to rebuild the unit FOUR TIMES within 11K miles
Reason I will never go to Kennedy Transmission again or anyone else for that matter......

Re: Possible Transmission Problem on 99 Accord
The consensus seems to favor honda mechanics. I had mine done at my local AAMCO and it runs and shifts better than when the car was new. They gave the same warranty as the dealer for $500 less. They charged me $2800. It's been a year now and absolutely no problem. I don't know if it makes a difference but the AAMCO guy says he had his honda specialist rebuild it.

Re: Possible Transmission Problem on 99 Accord
I do a lot of highway driving and I change it about every 25K. I do most of my own routine maintenance. Since the warranty ran out I've only been back to the dealer for recalls and the occasional part. Maybe I got lucky with my rebuild at AAMCO.

Re: Possible Transmission Problem on 99 Accord
My 2000 Honda Accord's transmission just started having lots of problems. It does not want to shift down or up well at all. At first the engine just revs up high and then it starts violently jerking.
The car has 189,000 miles. How much will Honda charge to repair / replace the Transmission. How many days does it take?
Is it even worth replacing the transmission? How many miles can I expect to get from the rest of the car and engine? It has run pretty well and has not caused me many problems.
I am stuck at my in laws 600 miles from home. Do all Honda Dealerships charge the same price for a transmission? Will the warranty be honored at other Honda Dealerships?
Thanks.

Re: Possible Transmission Problem on 99 Accord
You can expect to pay between 2.5K - 3K. Mine took a week. I am quite happy with the job they did. The car drives like new. The shifts are smooth. Under normal acceleration you have to look at the tach to see when it shifts. YOu can't feel it. As far as longevity of the car, I've seen this model with 221K - wrecked, 330K-wrecked, 289K - wrecked. That tells me they have the potential to last a good long time. I don't know the history of the cars, though. I have 169K and it runs like new...no joke. I got 34 MPG on my last trip to NY from VA. Keep in mind my care is the 6 cyl EX.
