Default Operation: Unnecessary Wheel Hub/Bearing Assembly Replacement

New Wheel Hub/Bearing Assembly: $34.99
Working with Bolts/Parts that Haven't Been Exercised in 21 Years and Dealing with Auto Store Teller Insisting on Wrong Slide Hammer Attachment... Twice: 12 hours
Skipping the Test Drive with Confidence and Finding Out the Noise Still Exists: Priceless

So... does anyone know of a some voodoo black magic cure-all for front end diagnosis?

Vehicle is a 1991 Honda Accord LX w/ stock F22A1 w/ 5-speed manual transmission.

When in the cabin, I hear a noise from the front passenger side of the vehicle. The noise is not persistent. The noise is not coincident with any sort of vertical suspension movement (the only kind, to my knowledge; except maybe the small bit of in/out movement during normal operation); it does not correlate with speed bumps or pot holes or anything of that ilk, regardless of the angle they are taken at. The noise does sound periodic with axle/wheel rotation. The noise sounds irrelevant of whether or not I'm in gear, and also irrelevant of whether or not the clutch is depressed, and also irrelevant of engine RPM. The noise sounds mostly when I'm downshifting into third or second gears, but it does not always. The noise sounds mostly at low speed (15 - 30 MPH); at high speed it may be being drowned out by the wind/tires on ground/other noise, so I'm not certain at high speeds. As far as I can tell, the noise actually goes away as I speed up. It's possible it comes back at high speed just as randomly as low speed, though, but on the interstate, I can't tell due to noise. I've never heard it in between 35-50 MPH though (upper 3rd/lower 4th), but I don't know if that's due to noise or what. The amount of pressure on the brakes doesn't seem to affect the noise either.

I replaced the wheel bearing; the noise persists. While replacing the wheel bearing, I noticed the caliper appeared seized (one of the slide pins was seized, and the cylinder looks to be as well), so I replaced it as well; the noise persists.

I tore apart the transmission in Fall 2011: fifth gear bearing (needle bearing; between gear and shaft) blew up due to no fluid (stupid previous owner, and stupid me for not checking). I replaced the bearing; the shaft looked pretty damn goodthe collar outside the shaft was replaced; the gear had some pitting though. Photos of transmission "rebuild" here: https://picasaweb.google.com/1045915...9/Transmission

The next easiest/cheapest is the half shaft / CV (axle). After that, it's back into the transmission we go!

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
