1992 Accord EX 2.2L - This thing has been leaking for sometime now and since we have a new vehicle I can now fix things. The leak is pretty drastic. I get the taste/smell of burnt oil from the exhaust. Oil all over under the engine. I thought is was the pan gasket & replaced it. No luck. Oil appears to be coming from the engine transaxle end. I replaced a faulty o-ring on the distributer and that made very little difference. The rocker cover has small leaks but not enough to cause the drips I see. There is little oil wetness showing on the back side of the block until I look underneath. Minor wetness on the front below the rocker cover. Man it's embarrassing to have to park on the street to avoid the dripping on friends driveways & I really don't like leaking oil all over the country. Plus oil is expensive. I just don't like oil leaks. I notice the leak is more obvious when the car is resting rather than in motion or at least it seems that way. Does this engine have any chronic oil leak problems to look for? Any help is appreciated. I'm starting to think main seal or something like that and am about ready to drop the engine to reseal everything. Thanks, diyguy - Bill

sounds like your on the right track rear main seal could be the culprit

could be due to many reasons, wornout valve cover gasket and wornout hoeses and seals

I agree with Bseries. I am thinking the main seal. That sucks because you have a huge labor job to replace a $10 seal. Now I have seen the distributor leak internally in the dizzy so keep that in mind, just because you did the outer o-ring does not mean you solved that problem.

I hadn't thought about inner seal on the distributer probably wise to check that first. I don't really cherish the thought of replacing a main seal but always up for an adventure. I need to really clean that puppy anyway. I always take lots of pictures when tearing down ..... short memory loss .... what was that? Work Work Work Fun fun Fun. Thanks, Bill

Also check to see if it coming from behind your your timing cover. Commom for balancer shaft seals to blow.

I replaced both seals on my distributor. Now after a year, something else is leaking. I notice the distributor and the valve cover is all dry. Wonder where else could it be?

well if its not comming from up top it could be the crank case seal...i remember mine going bad...

there are a lot of places oil can leak from...does it drip more on the drivers side or the passenger side?

It's about center. A little more toward the passenger's side.

Just a thought. If it's coming down the center rear of the engine, it could either be the Oil pressure sending unit or the oil cooler adapter o-ring. Both of these will cause oil to run down the back of an '90 to '93 EX motor (F22a6) and drip onto the exhaust below. Both can appear to be coming from the oil filter. In my case it was the oil cooler o-ring and an oil pan gasket. Mine is still leaking somewhere, but not near as much (when the o-ring finally let go - I was losing a quart every 400-600 miles)

Have you checked to see if the oil filter is tight and that it did not end up with the gasket from the old filter, before your last oil change, stuck to the block. I have seen this and it causes a real mess. Just a thought.

The EX has some additional things which can contribute to oil leaks. An Remote Oil Cooler Adapter which mounts between the Engine Block and the Oil Filter Canister, and the VTec controller mounted to the Cylinder Head. I've seen both leak.
Before you invest any more time playing "Pin the flag on the oil leak", I'd suggest a couple of cans of engine wash followed by a road test.
It will be a lot easier to spot an active oil leak without everything soaked.

okay i have the same problem but my is a lx 1992 accord and it seem to leak about 4 to 5 drops when it is parked. on the passanger side.

How many miles? Auto or manual? Manual transmissions essentially use 10W30 oil as well. My 90 LX needed a main seal and pan gasket at 237K when I replaced the clutch. Original dizzy still doesn't leak at 287K. Take P Adams suggestion, clean the engine and transmission top and bottom, drive it some, then look for the leak. Remember that the oil will tend to drain down and back, so follow the trail up and forward.

its a automatic has 234k yea when i was looking at the botttom of it i felt oil aroung the oil pan could that be the problem but it leaks from the pasanger side so is thier another problem
