Default Odd Stereo Issue .

Just recently my stereo out of nowhere stopped working and yes i checked everything and nothing was bad, so just today it turned on by itself but only if my headlights (both parking and low beams) are on. A long time ago one of the of the constant wires was burned off, so I had to improvise by rerouting it to the under hood fuse box where the radio fuse is. I also notice the leds in my stereo face kept dimming on and off like I had too much power being drawn in, so I am trying to figure this out while it is like 0 degrees outside and there is snow tomorrow. Any input will be appreciated while I investigate this mystery. Thank you in advance.

Start by checking the ground. If you have to, run a ground straight to the battery. Then verify the power lead is not being pinched.

Okay I'll check the ground and check the power wire back to the fuse box to check for pinch or scrapes once we it gets warmer out here . Thank you

Well when I first read this I thought for sure it had to do with the illumination circuit. The radio has a wire set aside for the illumination of your display (so you can have the brightness match between your dash/cluster lights and the radio's display automatically). I'd say you either have a failing radio that is causing a short to ground or power internally or you have another resistance issue in either your re-routed constant or the illumination circuit. Were there any other dimming lights or issues?

nope just the radio dimming flashing issue. My headlights and cluster are unaffected, so I think I will plug in previous stereo to see if it has any of the same issues to rule out possibilities.
