Default NEED HELP: 91 accord runs then tach bounce up and down then dies

I need help pls...my accord is fine on initial start up and when i cruise on the highway for few minutes and hit the rpm to 3k or even pass 3k, then the rpm "tachometer" starts bouncing up and down and dies...few minutes later the car will start again like nothing happens

Recently, when my car is fully warm on idle, when i revved the car over 4k, the tachometer will bounce up and down then die...what could it be?

Thanks a million in advance!!!

It's the ignitor in the distributor. Exact same symptoms as mine, I've been through about 2-3 of them in the last 9 years or so.

Don't waste your money on a new main relay.
There is no way a main relay would cause the tach to act stupid.
Neither would I recommend replacing the alt.
Usually the cause of that problem is a coil or ignitor.

if alternator fail, the check light battery sign will go on because the alternator cant hold long enuf to charge the battery...

So i guess my best bet is either ignitor or coil...if anything, i will just buy a new distributor because its not much of price differences...

I just want to stress it you guys that its not the SPEEDOMETER thats bouncing, its actually the RPM guage "tachometer" thats bouncing up and down on higher rpm and then dies, sometimes it will hesitate to start after it dies so i ended up waiting for like 2 mins or so and crank it back up and it will start again just like nothing happens...

Thanks in advance for all the feedback...so feel free to add more or ask me questions

it is definitely in the ignition system i had the same problem with my 92 when my ignition wire was loose...does the CEL also click on and off with a noise you ca hear from under the dash?

im not sure about the clicking noise but the cel will come out whenever the car dies. Then it goes away after the car starts...

whats really happening is the Tachometer will bounce up and down then followed by the cel and then dies...i will park the car for 2 mins and crank it again, then when the car starts, the cel goes away and car drives fine again until i hit a higher speed and higher rpm...it appears to me that its an ignition problem...so i will definitely focus on that...

if you guys have anything possible that i can check pls feel free to add or ask me quesiton

Thanks million in advance and all ur feedback helps a lot
