when did you buy the car? have you had it for a long time? When going from conventional oil to synthetic. Is sort of a problem especially for a high mileage engine it will show its flaws synthetic is thinner an gets in those tight holes an causes leaks and some friction.
I would just throw any brand of 5or10w-30 in that thing and hope for the best. Dont use synthetic. If your going to use high mileage oil dont alternate after you put it in. Always use high mileage after that.
btw your posting in the wrong section.

Ok great. Thanks. I've put 10w-30 gtx high millage. And so far so good. Especially after replacing oil pan gasket. Then Cured with the red glue cealant for 24 hrs.

If your car leaks oil, fix the leaks.
Stick with the recommended oil. 'W' is the viscosity of the oil when it is cold. A lower number is better as it will more readily flow in colder weather for better protection. 10W-30 is no thicker than 5W-30 during normal weather. And it will break down/thin out the same as the 5W when it gets past its nominal heat range.
Stuffing a thicker weight oil to stop leaks is a hack way to 'fix' a leak. Thicker oil will only cause more wear/strain/damage/decrease economy to the engine as it attempts to pump to thick of an oil through the engine.
Stop leaks are either goos or have chemicals that swell seals. This is another hack way to fix a leak. Swelling the seals softens them and they will fail in a more catastrophic way down the road.
If your car is overheating, find out why and fix the problem.
There is either a leak, faulty thermostat, or the fans are not operating. Find out what/why and fix it.

Use the same weight oil recommended in the owners manual. Use synthetic. Leaks and overheating require repair not different oil.

Mine burns oil like its getting drunk. I use 15w-40 and lucas oil treatment. Cut down the oil burning quite a bit and since its thick (and not cold out) its safely upping the oil pressure.

It means your engine is now having to work harder to push a thick oil through the galleries. What you really want is flow.
I can tell you if I eat a block of cheese and go sit on the pot, I will create some pressure, but there will be no flow.
Same thing when putting too thick of an oil, too heavy a weight, in an application that does not require it.
If your vehicle is burning oil, find out why and fix the problem. Bandaid 'fixes' like this are only going to cause more trouble down the road.

If I were the OP I would fix the leaks in some logical order (top to bottom, least difficult to most difficult...) then run a few cycles of conventional oil to keep costs low. If it's found that then engine doesn't burn more than a qt. or so between changes then swap to synth. And to the initial question, as has been mentioned, keep the number after the "W" the same as factory recommended and either keep the first number the same or go one step lower (example: 5W30 >> 0W30, 5W20 >> 0W20)

everything stated above is true. full synthetic oil leaks more than conventional oil. full syn is very consistent where dino oil is of different shapes and sizes. dino oil should be the only hack stop leak since its not really a hack (huh?) u get the point.
cam seal, front crank seal, rear crank seal, valve cover, spark plug tubes (f22b1) oil pan, balancer shaft, dizzy, maybe oil pump seal. fix seals stop leaks
