Followed the instructions I found on here to take the door panel off (thank you so much for those!!). I have the panel off and the door switch works and you can hear the motor working but the window doesn't move. It actually sounds like there's something grinding on the glass. I can pull the window up by hand to within about 4 inches of the top but it won't stay up. I'm not quite sure what could be bad. The switch works, the motor works - please help!! Thanks!

its usually never the switch but the motor, the motor is probably going out. i'd just grab a new motor/regulator from the JY. easy to replace.

JY = junkyard . . .

It's most likely that the regulator cable became jammed or kinked. The cable is an intergal part of the regulator and cannot be purchased separately or disassembled. You will need a regulator, which can either be purchased new or pulled from a car in a salvage yard.

Check the rubber run channel for kinks and snag points as well. If the channel is damaged, replace it with a new one while you're in there. Yes, they're expensive ($72+), but if you put it all back together with a bad run channel, you're going to continue having problems. I don't recommend installing used run channels because the rubber is usually hardened/cracked/kinked or otherwise faulty.

Make sure to lube the run channel with Shin-Etsu grease or silicone spray.
