kickdown switch
I have a 92 accord transmission slips after a couple of minutes driving it but when I turn the car off for 5-10mins it goes away and starts slipping afte wards, Ive checked the fluid and its fine. I checked the computer code and its throwing a code 15 (Kickdown switch circuit shorted). Does anyone know where this switch is located I`ve tried looking it up in the haynes manual and didn`t get much information.
I`m guessing the kickdown switch needs to be replaced but can`t seem to find a manual so i know where it would be a pull it out would anyone have a clue on this?

Re: kickdown switch (flipintentionz)
Code 15 for a 1992 Accord is not kickdown switch, its the ignition output signal. That usually indicates a reduction in power to the spark plugs, which causes a poor spark and incomplete combustion, if any at all. The "slipping" you are feeling may not be the transmission, but instead may be hesitation from the engine itself due to insufficient spark in the cylinder. Check to see that the spark plug wires are intact and secure, and if they are, then check the distributor and ignition coil.

The engine dosent lose power or any sign it goes from first to 2nd but after a couple of minutes of driving it, it slips and sometimes it wont go in first gear at all feels like its in neutral and its reving freely I can rev to 5 and 6 no problem ( its an automatic incase i forgot to disclose that), but once it start slipping I just turn the car off and wait 2-10 minutes and start it back up and it works fine as if nothing happened and after a couple of minutes driving it it slips again. I don`t know what happend to it i`ve never dogged this car out I drive this thing like a granny

The codes flashed by the "S" or "D4" lamp (or ABS lamp) have their own separate meaning.
It's important to say which lamp is flashing the code.
Having said that, I don't know about flip's question, since I don't have a '92. My '98 doesn't have a kickdown switch so tranny code 15 is a little different.

Yes it was the S or D4 light it flashed 1 long pause and 5 fast blinks sorry about that for not disclosing that, does anyone know anything about this? when I looked it up it said kick down switch circuit shorted.

Re: kickdown switch (flipintentionz)
Kickdown switch is the switch that causes the transmission to downshift to a "passing gear", usually second gear, when extra power is needed, such as at WOT. The only way I can see that switch going bad is if you make the transmission kick down too often. Ease your lead foot off the gas and maybe you won't have a problem next time. Sorry to seem rude, but I just find it wierd that you abuse the tranny then whine and cry because the thing is broken. Cars are like people. If you think you can abuse them and still expect them to do what you want them to do, you are obviously deluding yourself into believing the impossible. If the car is not built to be driven aggressively, then common sense would tell you to drive carefully. Yet another example of "its not the car's fault, its the idiot behind the wheel that's the problem".

From his post, I can't tell whether he abuses his tranny or not...
Try to find a Helm book? They're more detailed about everything, probably more complete about the tranny. Besides, it could be pinched wires in that switch circuit, which would be almost free if you fix it yourself.

Thanks for the response, I do want to buy a helms manual, I`m new to the automatic transmissions, I`ve owned several cars that were 5 speed all my life, and mnaimes I don`t drive this car like a maniac, I saved up and bought this car my self, why would I do something like that, I`m not a rich kid that everything is given easily, I work for it.
But anyways I manage to clear the code that it was throwing I replaced some sensor on the front of the tranny It had a green colored connector near the dipstick its not the solenoids.
Its still trying to figure it out, when I start the car and drive it runs fine as if nothing happened, after a couple of minutes it starts slipping almost like its in neutral , and if it does shift it dosent shift to 2nd or 3rd, and I cut the car off wait 2-10 minutes start it up drives fine again. I definately need to get me a helms manual so I know more of how it works.

Re: kickdown switch (mnaines)
my honda also slips on a cold takeoff SOMETIMES. once it warms up it rides fine. it is in the shop right now because it has been intermittently cutting off. they said it is a code 15 and they want to change the distributor. when i get it back, hopefully the slipping will stop.

Code 15 Hmmmm?
Throttle to trans pressure lever adjustment via cable but no "kickdown" switch.
this ain't your heavy chevy LOL
I've seen a bunch of them have torque converters come apart and plug up the trans fluid sump then when the car sits awhile you can drive again till the trash plugs up the sump again.
Sure sign of a shelled TC is to pull off a solenoid and look for 'wet cardboard' stuff on the solenoid screen.
