Keyless Entry Question for 97 Accord LX
I just bought a 97 Honda Accord LX and I want to know if it has remote keyless entry capabilities. The door had no scratches from a key so I suspect that the previous owner had the remotes but didn't turn them in to the dealership when they traded it in. The dealership is stupid and has no clue about honda. Anybody help me out?

Hey, I spent about five weeks in Cedar City back in the summer of '90, for a field geology course. Very nice scenery there (if you like rocks). One of my professors was from the area and has a house at in the boondocks near Cedar City. We were staying at the local university's dorms, they had some strange "no alcohol" rule. I still remember the RA doing a raid on our fridge and consfiscating a caraffe that had water in it, because "it could have held alcohol at one time". Of course, she didn't check the freezer and see my bottle of vodka .
As for the Honda, I don't know. The sixth generation ('98 through '02) comes prewired and you can pick up a keyless entry kit for ~ $140, but I don't know about the '97.
Is your car an EX or LX?
Any chance you can get ahold of the previous owner? Talk to the dealer, see if you can get the previous owner's number from them.
Otherwise, check out http://www.handa-accessories.com and ask them, they normally just have parts for '98+, maybe they can give you more information. Also check http://www.magauto.com .

Re: (whoaitslen2)
Ok, which is it. Your 5th gen has remote keyless straight from the dealer but that other dude said that it doesn't. Mine is a pretty fully loaded LX. Is it possible or am i searching in vain. :

Like I said, keyless entry was a dealer install option (a.k.a Honda Genuine Accessory) for most 5th gen (and Honda didn't even offer leather in a LX, it was added by the dealer).
I have all the Accord brochures after '95 and I work at a Honda dealership so if you don't believe me, I don't know what to tell you.

How can I get a nice copy of the '97 Accord Brochure?
And not even the '97 EX came with factory keyless entry. I've got it now, but it ain't factory. Proably a dealer install as noted above. Since the '97 Special Edition had it from the factory, it couldn't have been too hard for a dealer to install it on any other 5th gen.
And an LX stock with leather interior? Be for real!

So it was a dealer install option on the '97, just as it was on my '99 LX.
So, if you can find the kit and the installation instructions, you can just do it yourself. As I said above, for my car it cost ~ $140. If you have the instructions, it is a relatively straight-forward install. No cutting of anything needed, just plug some things in, unplug others, etc.
I took another look at the kit I have, per the website I picked it up from it is only good for the '98 through '00 models.
There are a number of online stores that sell Honda accessories ( http://www.honda-accessories.com , http://www.magauto.com ). Call some of them and ask, see what they say.
As for recoding new remotes, that is easy to do by yourself if you know how ( http://www.handa-accessories.c...G.pdf ).

I have a friend who just purchased a 97 accord EX and he is wondering if it has keyless entry. It sounds as if these cars are prewired, but a kit needs to be installed. Is there anyway I can look and see if this kit is installed. Thanx for any input.

Here are the installation instructions for a keyless entry for the 98-2000 model year.
http://www.handa-accessories.c...s.pdf
I assume that a '97 would look similar, though the wiring must be a little different. Note page 5 which has a picture of the actual receiver (under the steering wheel, behind the dash). If he takes the driver's side dash apart and sees that, then he has remote entry and can just buy a key fob off of ebay and program it. If he doesn't have that, I don't know where he can buy a keyless entry for a '97. Per Jiggafan above, it wasn't a factory item on the EX (or LX), but the previous owner might have had it installed.
Here are the fob programming instructions, if he already has it installed:

Re: (95PreludeSi)
I just bought a keyless entry system off of ebay for about 30 bucks, and installed it in about an hour. On my 94 accord, the door lock and unlock wires had a molex connecter at the end of it, but i just cut it off and spliced the wires to the keyless unit on it. Then just wired into the constant power source, created a ground, and it has been working perfectly for the past year.

edit: found it, its under the drivers seat. I spent the weekend scouring junkyards and all 1994-1997 accords with power locks have the connector. I found a keyless control unit in a 94 EX Wagon and moved it over to my 95 EX Sedan and it worked fine after pairing the remote.

I know this thread is 15 years old but does anyone know where this connector is that he's referring to. I have a 94 EX sedan that I want to add keyless entry to.

Re: Keyless Entry Question for 97 Accord
I happened to come across this. If I run out of more pressing things, might look into this as my 97 EXL seems to have all other accessories. Lol

Re: Keyless Entry Question for 97 Accord
can't seem to find where to plug the module in. I took out my driver's seat but couldn't find the plugs under the carpet, any idea of where to plug the module in?
