Default Just purchased 1998 accord V6

Ok so I just purchased a 1998 Honda Accord V6 and I am well aware of the transmission issues that the 6th gen. I want to preserve the tanny for as long as possible before the dreaded rebuild. I have no idea what fluid the guy had in before and want to do a complete 3x3 drain refill what should I put in dw1? I can get max atf for 2.99 a quart. I also popped out the drain plug and there were a crap load of shavings clinging onto it.

yeah.... if you believe its going to last, then i would only use hondas atf. if its on its way out and you just want to flush for safe measures, then valvoline sells that syn atf good for hondas.

my 4cyl trans just went out earlier this week. honda sells their atf for like 10$ a quart. iv only done 1 flush so far, but managed to do 1qt of honda, 1qt of the valvoline stuff, and 1/2 a qt of lucas stop slip stuff lol.

and you say ur drain plug had shavings on it? my drain plug had grease all on it with no shavings, but deff had shavings when draining

My only fear is that with 132xxx and that many shavings on the drain plug and the fluid smelling burnt that doing a drain and fill flush will knock something loose and make it go immediately.

Flush will do that. 3x drain and fill probably won't.

These transmissions are low pressure units, compared to other ATs. This is why it is not recommended to flush. Drain and refill to remove the old and replenish the detergents and friction modifiers.
