Just Bought a 2000 Accord Need Advice
Hey guys, I'm a new member here and I just started my first full time job as a Mechanic at Chevy dealer so I'm pretty new to the whole mechanic thing and so I only know a few things. But anyways I just (4 days ago) bought my sisters 2000 honda accord coupe. Its a 2.3L, has 254k miles on it and it was originally owned by some guy in his 20s who had put lowering springs in the car and had massive wheels on it and a body kit and all kinds of other stuff.
Well anyways the car is so low now (its like maybe a 2 inch drop or maybe 3 its so low that stock 15inch steels fill the wheel arches completely) that the alignment has it pulling to the right and my sister said that she tried to get it aligned several times but they all said that it could not be aligned but she forgot what they told her was the reason. I got the car up on the lift and its a mess to say the least. The bumper is only attached at 3 points the front splash guard is missing that covers the bottom of the car that right after the bumper and some of the wheel wells are missing, it looks as if the first owner had such big rims and tires on the car before hand that it rubbed right through the wheel wells. The engine is leaking from around the distributor, the upper main and possibly the valves, it also has tiny front disc brakes and drums in the back.
So my initial thoughts are to go on cragslist and find a Accord V6 of that same generation that is being parted out and buy all the suspension parts the, all the brake components, the front and rear hubs, and the splash guard and wheel wells/inner fenders and go through clean them off make sure they are not broken then install new pads and rotors all around and swap it all with the old stuff on my car so I can solve the ride height, the braking power, the 4 lug bolt pattern and the alignment problems all at once. My question is what should I look for when getting the parts from the V6 accord and if there is anything that will prevent me from doing the swap and things I should probably do while swapping (I'm going to replace all the brake lines). Will the struts on the V6 accord give a lower ride height than the stock ones on the 4 banger model? Or should I just buy some brand new struts? I want a lowered ride but I don't want it as low as it is now. I can provide pictures if anyone wants them to help you guys. Thanks (:

You can replace the springs. If the shocks, bushings, and ball joints are all in good shape then you could order an Eicbach pro-kit and raise the car a couple inches, that will put the suspension geometry back within adjustable range for the alignment. I think that V6 springs might make your car ride too high in the front. I'm not sure if control arm geometry is different, but after 98 the 4cyl and v6 accords had the same engine bay I thought.

Hmm thats a really good idea how much I should be paying for all those parts from a V6 accord? I'm thinking 600 is reasonable

Oh I have no idea man. Call up people on craigslist parting out their accords and see. Like I said, if the rest of the suspension is servicable, some good lowering springs will raise the ride height and only cost a few hundred bucks.
