Default The Infamous Car Jerking at Cruise Speed...

Alright so here it is...

I start the car, I put it in reverse and drive back and turn out of my carport.
Then I put the car in drive ( note the cars a stick shift ) and drive to the end of the drive way (27 ft). I look both ways and proceed in first gear leftwards out of the drive way, at 15mph I switch to second gear, everything's running good.... Now the problem... When I try to maintain a constant speed of 20-25mph in second gear the car jerks back and forth like something is not catching right ( Its not a transmission problem ). This also happens when I am in 3rd gear going about 40 mph, It only happens when I try to maintain a constant speed.

I recently installed a High Flow N1 catback system, So now when I'm cruising in 3rd gear trying to maintain a speed of 40 mph ( 5-10% gas pedal pushed) the car jerks forward and backwards slightly, Its not a violent Jerk. But also when it happens I notice the sound the exhaust makes, Its almost like a putty put put sound. Now the car drives fine, Shifts fine, starts fine, accelerates fine ( other than whats stated ).

Oh so far here is what I've done and replaced.

1.) Throttle body cleaned
2.) FITV valve cleaned
3.) IAC Valve cleaned
4.) Brand new Radiator
5.) brand new raditor hoses
6.) Coolant system bleed for air
7.) brand new TPS Sensor
8.) Short Ram intake
9.) N1 High flow catback system
10.) Brand new pcv valve and hose
11.) new Fuel filter
12.) seafoamed the gas tank twice within 20k miles
13.) new headers gasket + VHT ceramic coated stock headers
14.) brand new ngk plugs, and wires, + distributor cap and button replaced
15.) random vacuum hoses replaced
16.) Brand new oxygen sensor

Note = I used to have a CEL 43 that states fuel supply system ( check the fuel pressure/fuel pressure regulatorand oxygen sensor.
But it hasnt come on for a long time, It used to come on every other day.

Any ideas Anyone?

Check your axle boots for any blatant tears.

I'm pretty sure you have a broken axle. Try turning the wheel left while accelerating and try turning right while accelerating. If there are any differences in feeling that might be another indicator of the axle being broken.

I have the same problem but mine is automatic. I also notice when I accelerate more it pulls to the right, when I let off it pulls slightly back to the left. I did notice also that when I was putting my rims on and it was obviously I'm park, when I tried to tighten my lugs on the left wheel that it spun. Shouldn't it stay in place??

Something I did not mention above, I replaced both Rack and Pinon boots, and both CV axles. Also brand new Front discs.

So yea if there is a broken axle it would have to be the rear.
Come to think of it a broken axle would be a really serious problem I don't think its going to be an axle.

The car also has lowering springs on it.... don't know if that has anything to do with anything.

Our cars are fwd so they don't have rear axles.

This. If the EGR ports are plugged it may lead to bucking(pulsing sensation) and possibly pinging. There is a how to for the 90-97 Accords in the FAQ. It would be helpful if you mentioned what year and engine your car is.

lol @ rear axle. You may want to try to pull a code anyhow. The code could still be there just not going off. Maybe it got tired of you ignoring it. Could be the fuel pump afterall. Have fuel pressure tested at high and low rpms.

What brand did you replace with? I've seen more than one occassion where someone replaced with refurbed Autozone ones and had bad axles.

I second what MuffinMan says. I been through that a couple of times with Autozone axles on a manual.

Ok just to clear things up, it is not the axles I promise you. I do not do the refurbed stuff, Everything I put on my car is brand new.

It is an engine problem somehow.
There is no noise, The car just bucks and jerks slightly when I try to cruise with the gas pedal pressed about 5-10% in almost all gears.

I replaced the egr valve gasket and cleaned the egr valve and sprayed carb cleaner in there and vacuumed it out but I will try and take it all apart asap and check it out.
Other than that anyone got any more suggestions?

Also I have a Lifetime warranty on my axles from advanced auto parts.
My wife has went through 2 pairs... 320k miles on a 95 honda civic that still runs better than my car...

Instead of MPH, this sounds like a RPM related issue....say around 1800~2100 rpm's?

I see you cleaned the egr valve but what about the egr chamber (Nicefeet and MadMike suggested as well)...plate looking thing under the injetors.....sorry for the real technical terms....and the grammer

I had a similar problem, as per the advice above I cleaned the EGR chamber and cured the bucking/ hesitation problem. I have a thread if you search my user name.

The problem was the EGR system. I took off the fuel rail and then the egr passage way thing... It was clogged to high heaven. Did a nice cleaning on it and on the intake manifold, the problem is fixed and runs great.

Word to the wise, if you have an old car and the injector o rings haven't been replaced in a long time be careful, I ripped mine and had to search all over town for some...

Thank you everyone for the help.

Disregard, I see you fixed your problem.

Enixero,

I had a similar issue on my car (96, manual, accord) but not exactly the same. I had what I thought was a bad TPS and replaced it with a knock-off from an online seller as Honda only sells full throttle body's with a TPS on it for $500. When I replaced the TPS with the online TPS my car would violently jerk at least in 1st gear when I would try and hold the accelerator constant. I don't recall this as being an issue in other gears. However, when I replaced the throttle body with an OEM Honda from a junkyard (can't remember maybe 75 to $125) all my problems went away. Try unplugging your TPS and if the problem goes away, that could be it.

My 1993 is jerking/bucking from take off then stalls. Could i have the same problem. So far replaces air filter, plugs, fuel filter and checked gas for water. Was gonna replace the fuel pump but thought Id put this out there. Also there is a video on how to clean the EGR port my Eric the Car guy on youtube link>>> http://www.youtube.com/user/EricTheC.../0/d8N-SE047VY

Is this an accurate description on how to do this job?

i have a 91 civic hatch with a 94 d15b7 swap. in jerks violently in first second and 3rd gear unless im above about 2300 rpms. i have to constantly give it alot of gas to keep in from jerking real hard. the car idles up and down from about 1100 rpms to 1400 in neutral or when the clutch is pressed. anytime i dont have my foot on the gas or on the clutch it jerks really bad. i replaced the iacv and it idled better for a minute but stilled jerked. now its back to idling up and down. ive been told it was the tps and the O2 sensor. replacing the tps tomoro. any suggestions before i go spending anymore money? would be greatly apreciated
