Almost Junked my 94 accord EX because it had a serious oil leak on the tranny side and it was not that o ring near the distributor.
It was the "vtec solenoid" That is between the distributor cap and the fuel rail. Next to EGR and just off of back passenger side of the valve cover. Has an electrical plug and 3 10mm bolts that hold it on. Nearly mistaken for the rear main seal of death. $16 odd shaped oring both O'rileys and A.Z. told me they couldn't even order it.. Just thought I'd throw it out there since I was close to a last ride out to Pick N Pull.

The rear main seal leaking isn't exactly a death, you just need to drop the tranny and the oil pan.

for me it kinda would be. I don't have a cherry picker. Loaned my adaptr for a transmission that went on my floor jack and never got it back. Top that off with I deliver the newspaper. 24-7-365 100+ miles every day. If I can't be certain I can finish it in a few hours, with darkness coming so early this time of year, it is a death sentence.
Got lucky on this fix tho.....all is well

You don't need a cherry picker to pull the tranny. It's not exactly easy but if you have time, it's doable. You can install a tranny without a transmission jack. It's best to use two people. One person lifts from the tranny side to help lining it up after using a jack to initially line it up, the other person grabs it from below and inserts the dowels in the engine.

+2 to the above post. I had to change the transmission on my 96 and I did it in my driveway without a cherry picker or a transmission jack. You can drop it out of the bottom on these cars. I did use a floor jack with a board on top to lower it down. Putting it back in I pretty much used the same method and had a buddy help guide it in. It took me a couple of days because I pulled it with the intent to just stick the new transmission in and reuse the same clutch since it wasn't slipping. When I got it apart the clutch looked horrible as did the flywheel, so I had to order those and wait a week and a half for them. Once they came back in it took me one day to put it back together. This was also my first time doing one on one of these cars. Realistically though, you could probably knock it out pretty easily in one day if you had all of the parts.

I'm glad yours ended up being much simpler, but if anyone else has this issue, and it ends up being the rear main, it's not a horrible fix.
