Default dual filament tail lights question...

Okay so break lights don't come on when I hit the breaks. Every once in awhile they come on.

Now does this sound like bulbs (which I checked and are fine)?

Could it be a dual filament loose connection (burnt out)?

Or the break light switch?

****... could it be the ECU?

Help! Failed first inspection cause of this CCRRRAAAAAAAPPPPPPP!!!!!!

Brake light switch and the bulb would be my first two checks

Replace the bulbs as they're easy and cheap, it'll also rule out a bad/loose connector.

I would be thinking of problems that would affect both break lights, assuming both are affected.

Indeed, which is why the switch would be my first choice, and the bulbs would be my last. Is the car equipped with the third light? If so, how's that behaving?

If all brake lights are inop (including the high-mount window one), you've most likely a bad / maladjusted brake lamp switch mounted on the brake pedal brackets. If you've an automatic, this can also effect the Shift interlock release solenoid.
The intermittent part of your posting tells me that your fuse should pass muster.

hmmm interesting. All lights break lights including the window one don't come on (sometimes they do sometimes they don't).

I broke the pin in my shifter and replaced it. then my diagnostics revealed a messed up shift control selonoid.

I replaced the selonoid and my TCU and now the trans runs like new. But prior to this the lights went out. (about 6 months ago)

so could the shifter be the culprit? (spelling?). YOu know ever sinc pep boys did my breaks this **** started happening. Thank god I started working on this my self and thank god for this website!

Again...Brake Lamp Switch.
Most likely misadjusted or starting to fail.
