Default weird acting headlights

I was driving my 89 accord and when I flipped from high to low beams the lows dimmed, turned off then came back on. Any ideas?

The combination switch on the column is worn or wearing out, causing crappy contact.

Those combo switches get weak contacts after years of use. You can remove the steering wheel, then remove the combo switch, carefully take it apart, clean the contacts and stretch the tension spring a little, put it all back together and hope for the best. Or you can replace the combo switch for around $120.
Another strange problem that happens with the flip up head lights is that the wire harness, behind the head light, flexes and eventually the insulation on the harness cracks open letting bare wires short out. You can remove the head light and peel back the wire loom cover about 4-6 inches[to the bend] to check for that problem.
