Help: crankshaft pulley removal
i have a 90 accord and want to remove the crankshaft pulley. to keep the crank from spinning so i can get the bolt off the pulley, my book says to insert an allen rench or screw driver into an access hole on the back of the block. but every time i go to remove the bolt on the crankshaft pulley, i have to put too much torque on the wrench and the screwdriver/allen wrench slips off the gear inside. any suggestions on how to remove the crankshaft pulley bolt without screwing something up...

Hmmmm never heard of this method. It sounds like you're skipping ahead to holding the balance shaft in place with a screw driver. Anyways, if you see your crankshaft pulley center, the outer has a shape of a hexagon right? This is used with the Honda/Acura Crankshaft pulley holder. Hold the crankshaft in place while you bust that bolt loose. I recently saw it available at Pepboys. If not you have to buy it online.
I am not sure if this will work for the 4th gen Accord. Anyways good luck.

like it's was already stated, get the pulley holding tool. I bought mine at TheToolWarehouse.net for pretty cheap and it works great. If you'd like a visual of how to use this tool, check out my timing belt how-to that is linked in the FAQ sticky at the top of the Accord forum. In there I show the tools I used and how I used them to get the crank pulley bolt out. I have used this method multiple times now and it's worked great.
Also, what book is telling you to use that other method? Sounds like they are having you wedge a screw driver into the flywheel teeth and hold it in place. There were picture before, can't find them now, of someone who broke a chuck off the tranny case using that method. Do not do it that way, get the proper tool and do it the right way. Also, I would consider getting a new manual, like one from Helm Inc.

I got the same tool off of amazon. It works great. Get a 4' long breaker bar (a pipe). I'm about 180lb, and I had all my weight on it pulling down and bouncing before it finally came loose. I thought something was going to break for sure, but the bolt came off just fine.
