Default Have 1988 honda accord, problems: high revs at idle(3000-3500) choke-out at same rpm

Hello everyone
My 1988 honda accord is giving me fits!! Car was running great, is begining to present major problems.
1. High revs when car is totally warmed up. Revs go from 3000-3500 at idle.

2. Feels as if car is choking out at same revs when under load in 3rd or fourth gear

3. Tune-Up was performed.

4. Car does not backfire at all.

5. Car does exhibit run-on problems when idle is high and I attempt to cut car off.

6. Car does appear to have a throttle body/carborator type.

Shall I seek a new carb/rebuilt car or could something else be the problem. Do these cars have a said history of similar problems..this is my first honda. Have only owned the car for a few months. Car was sitting up...around 5 years!! Had car running well for about a month. Any ideas, please advise!!

It sounds to me like the entire carbuerator as well as the choke system is completely fucked, worse than mine (I didn't think that was possible). Your air/fuel mixture is too rich, your choke is sticking, your thermosensor is causing the choke to open at inapproprate times. None of this is a surprise considering that this car was sitting around unused for 5 years.

This all may sound serious, but it's not too hard to fix. Clean the carb and make the proper adjustments and replace your thermosensor, that should fix the problem. If not, have your alternator examined.

Hey would it be possible to just switch it to manual choke instead because there is a manual choke conversion that is like 15 dollars and i think it may work for that issue cus i have the exact same problem but it is drivable and does start fine and is in pritty good condition for that problem.

I have a similer problem but when my car warms up for a little while its fine. When driving when cold the rpms stick when stopping and shifting. I was thinking it had to do something with my cruise control, which works when it wants to. The car is a 1989 honda accord lxi.

so I was told my alternator needed replacing, so I replaced it now my car revs up to 3000 rpm. I noticed you said check your alternator. Tell me how this affect the rpm. O am a novice at this so easy dumb it down for me.
