Default Handbrake light & ABS light - 5th gen

Well when i turned on the car this morning, I noticed on my dash that the handbrake light had remained on after taking the handbrake off. Also noticed that in the display of my car, "BRAKE LIGHT" was also lit up, even when my foot was not on the brake pedal.

Also, my ABS light was on. After driving for a little while, unsure if my rear brakelights were working (brakes seemed to be working fine, I understand that they would not have the ABS function, however, if there was a fault) I stopped at traffic lights and turned the car off for a short while, then turned it back on. The ABS light seemed to be off now, The handbrake light was still on, and the rear "brakelight" light only came on when I pushed the brake pedal... then it stayed on... ABS came on about a minute down the road.

The whole way to work the car was driving perfectly fine, and when I arrived at work I checked to see if my rear taillights were permanently on, which they weren't.

On a side note, on a hot day, my brakes play up. Normally, I can push them in a small amount, and eventually this will pull my in to a complete stop, even keeping the pedal depressed at the same level. On a hot day, to stop the car, I need to depress the pedal entirely to the floor to pull the car to a complete stop.

Any Ideas? brake pads replaced recently, discs appear fine, better at rear than front.

The ABS thing happens to me every now and then. I just pull over. Shut the car off for a minute and then fire her back up. It normally clears it right up.

The E-brake light may be because of a sensor right up under the e-brake. You have to remove the arm rest but that is easy to do. Just look at it and see if the plug came off. If it isn't that then I don't know.

Brake light is probably because one of your brake light bulbs is not working. If you turn signals work fine (I.E. not blinking faster than normal) then check your third brake light. Mine was blown and I had that light on forever. Only came on after I hit the brakes though. Replaced the bulb and all was good.

As far as the heat thing.... brakes degrade in stopping ability the hotter they are. They shouldn't be getting that hot from just outside ambient temperature but I dunno. Change your pads, you may have some cheap ones on there.

Hope this helps you man.

Thanks Obsidian, I'll check that out

Now that you mention it, my 3rd brake light isnt connected, was connected to my spoiler light which I removed, never reconnected it up but it hasnt been a problem before. maybe the wires are touching or something, I'll check it out.

when my brakes get really hot the abs light turns on... just shut the car off let teh pads cool and it should go away.... if your brakign hard all the time if your pads get hot enough they wont work..

the exact same thing happened to me a while back. the brake light and abs light went on because my brake fluid was almost empty. when i refilled the fluid the lights went away, so i would check that first. and the rear brake light turned on because my 3rd brake light bulb went out. i hope this helps
