Should I go for it or pass
Hey, I've been wanting to do some work on my Accord since I got it a year ago and its still boring and stock. I was browsing CraigsList and found a 94 Vtec engine (assuming F22B1) with manual transmission and was wondering if it would be a good idea to do an engine and tranny swap on my accord (F22B2 - Auto). The engine and tranny have abuot 142k miles on them and my car has about 144k miles on the engine and about 70-80k on the rebuilt transmission. The guy is asking 250. Should I go for it or do something else.
Here's the description:
i have a 1994 accord sohc vtec motor and 5 spd trans 142k on them. you have to pick up. the motor is near Lake City Seattle. i have the axels wit ABS rings. ecu. no harness.. i want 250 o.b.o willing to work on the price for a quick sale. call me
What else will I need besides the parts for the 5 speed swap i know all those, most parts i can use from my accord already can't i?

it sounds like a good deal, but if your going to do a swap you might want to save the extra and get a h23, or even a k series. the 94-97 Accord chasie can fit just about any honda block you want in it.

i planned on buying an h22 from hmotors but it was just too expensive for me....how much would a h23 or k series run me?

also how much more work is it with installing the vtec since i didnt have it before will i need extra materials for that?

Save your money for an H swap. The few extra horses you'll get from a B1 is not worth the time and effort.

...and a manual swap is a really good idea.........don't do the H22 swap..save your money...(wish I had)
and sheyit for 250!!!!! you can't go wrong!! make sure you get all the extras that come with the motor like the main engin harness, ECU, Clutch cylinder, blah blah blah...so you don't have to buy it later! good luck I say

No, it cannot. You cannot fit a V6 into a 4cyl car 5th gen accord. While the F, H, and K series will work just fine, the J series will not fit becuase the engine bay is too small.
You have to buy a V6 car if you want to swap in a newer V6 into one.
The front end on a I4 is exactly 3" shorter than what you need to fit a V6 in there.
Starting in 1998, the engine bays are the same for the V6 and I4 although it is still kinda pricey to swap a V6 into a I4 car.

those two 3 ft. wire i suggested will more than cover from the vtec spool and pressure to the ecu, then just cut off about 4 inches from one to run a ground from the pressure switch to the solenoid itself.

If you are eventually going to go turbo, I would swap it. If you plan on staying naturally aspirated, I would save up for the h22. It's not worth the effort to have a na f22b in my opinion.

if the price of a h22 is a problem then possibly look into a jdm f22b
its basically the equivilent (minus .1 litre) of a usdm h23 but can be found for as little as 500 plus shipping.

It might not be a bad idea to buy the motor and tranny you are looking at and swapping a h23 head onto the block. It will be less expensive and easier to find than a f22b, but is essentially the same thing.

hey all, the guy e-mailed me back and said he's willing to give me the engine and tranny with axels and ecu for 150 pickup, i think its pretty good deal, but i still need all the parts for a manual swap....would you go for it for only 150?!

It's ultimately your decision. The price seems good but the miles worry me. If you decide to go ahead a buy it check the engine and the tranny carefuly. Go over it with a microscope if you have to. You dont want to spend your hard earned money on a motor that has bent valves or scorned piston walls. You have to also ask yourself what do you want. an NA motor? turbo? Good luck.
