Gas cap on 2001 Honda Accord
Folks,
I was tighting the gas cap after filling up last night and turned it the manditory 3 clicks the cap states on it to ward off the check wallet light (i.e check engine light) and the dang thing broke apart. I guess even Honda OEM parts can break.
I was lucky that I was filling up near a shopping center which had an Advance Auto in it. I bought a Stant gas cap for this vehicle and put it on.
With my work schedule, I will not be able to get to a Honda Dealer for 2-3 weeks due to thme closing before I get off. Is there any adverse effects in using the aftermarket gas cap for a while? Or perhaps permanantly? I got off the phone with the dealer just now and they want $25.31 for the gas cap (must be made of gold)
I am all in favor of buying OEM parts for my car. But $25 for a gas cap seems a little extreme. While I can justify paying $30-$40 for a Honda OEM thermostat and $13 for a radiator cap because these are important to the cooling system maintaining proper presure and temp, I can not justify paying 17 dollars more for a cap with Honda stamped on it.
So anybody using a Stant or other aftermarket gas cap on their Honda Accord?
Thanks
L
