Default '92 Accord EX Hesitation

Hi! I'm having a problem with my '92 Accord EX. I recently replaced a few heater hoses that were leaking and during this process is when my problem arose. It hesitates BADLY only after warm and after I idle for a while (like at a long traffic light). It won't do it at take off but once I get around 2500-3k RPMs. Sometimes if I just stay on the gas it will eventually go, other times I have to kinda pump and hit the gas good for it to go. I was wondering if maybe I didn't get all the air out of the cooling system? The temp is good and I'm at a loss, distributor and spark plugs look good and were recently replaced. Any ideas for me? Thanks!

It sounds as though you may have accidentally knocked a vacuum line or EGR line off while you were replacing the heater hoses. I doubt that the throttle body idle bypass would have caused the problem based on your description of it starting after the repairs, but it would be something good to take a look at when you have a chance. Periodic cleaning of the throttle body helps keep the idle or off-idle performance the way it should be.

I would trace the heater hoses and look for anything nearby that might be loose or disconnected.

Did you refill and bleed your cooling system after you replaced the heater hoses. If you did not that can cause your car to idle poorly and seem to miss when up too temperature.

Coolant System bleeding process. Do not attempt this when the system is hot

Thanks for the replies. I will indeed double-check that I didn't knock a hose off (near the heater hoses). I did find a small pinhole in one vacuum line and replaced it which didn't help. It is full and not losing anti-freeze, so I know the leaks have been fixed, but I didn't know about the bleeder valve and didn't open it when I refilled the radiator which is why I think air may still be in there. I've checked it since and get a good stream from the bleeder but I still think air is in it. If I run it cold with the cap off like it says will the air work it's way out if still in there? Thanks so much for the help guys!

That should help get all the air out.

Thanks Ghost, I'll bleed it properly this time and hopefully that should do the trick. Your description is pretty much on the money, low roughish kinda idle and missing when warm. I'll bleed it again properly and let ya know how it comes out. Thanks again!

How many miles are on her?

Sorry to say but it definitely sounds like your EGR ports are clogged. Search in the tech articles there are a couple write ups on it. It was something I was not willing to attempt on my 1993 SE with 203K on it, and I had a shop do it, they showed me how much carbon had built up in the runners after they drilled into the intake manifold, it was an absolute mess. It is not a very inexpensive job for a shop eiher.

Good Luck

It's a good thought, I actually have 2 92 EX's. I had one done a while ago, and the problem car was just done within the last 5k (she's got about 139k on her now) so I doubt it's them. I tried to bleed it some more again today and did get a decent amount of air out so we'll see how she rides a little later tonight. Thanks again for all the help and ideas guys!

UPDATE: Good to go tonight on the way home. Time will tell, it has come and gone before, I'll keep ya posted and thanks again!
