Default flare upshift transmission

Hi i am new to this board and to hondas.
I recently bought a 95 accord wagon ex auto and i think i am having transmission problems.
From shift 2 to 3 and 3 to 4 i am having flare upshifts where before the car shifts the revs go up 1k to 2k over the shift point. i have the repair manual and have done a ton of searches on this board. So far i have drained and refilled with atfz1 2 times that did not really help the transmission.
Besides the flare upshifts it shifts smoothly, that is what makes me unsure that i need a new tranny.
while working on the car i had noticed that the throttle control cable to the transmission was kinda loose and at one point was getting caught on a battery cable. I moved the cable out of the way but that did not help any. I also noticed that the throttle control cable stay seems bent as if when installing/removing the engine/tranny before the stay got caught and bent. i dont' know if this would make a difference. but there is a lot of play in the cable.

How do i fix the flare upshift?
Does this point to needing a new transmission?
should i try to bend the stay back to its stock position? or get a new one?
should i adjust the cable or get a new one that is tighter?

any help would be greatly apreciated
thank you
isaac

It sounds like the trans is suffering a low pressure episode
If your manual covers it, try to adjust the TV Cable. It can effect line pressure and shift points.

There are also two twin-packs of shift solenoids which follow commands sent by the TCM. They have debris filter screens incorporated in their base gaskets and they do from time to time get dirty. I suspect the solenoids themselves are alright, but it might be worth your while to clean these filters.

Thanks
Those solenoids were going to be my next project. In some of your older posts i saw that it was a good idea to clean those up.

So you don't think i need a rebuild or is that still a possibilty?

I'll post results in the morning thanks for the help

It's correct name is Throttle Valve Control Cable.
On later model electronic transmissions this cable is often replaced by a signal from the TPS, but in this case the tranny gets this info from a cable which runs from the Throttle Body linkage mechanism to the Transmission Case.

sorry for the delay i had to leave town.
I checked the solenoid filters they were nice and clean, and tested to be fine.
I'll try to take some of the slack out of the throttle valve control cable see if that helps.
whats next after that?

thanks for the help

sure is
i finally got around to adjusting the throttle control cable so that it is near taut. I tried all kinds of different settings. When to tight, all shifts are very hard, when to loose, flare shifts at every shift. So that really seemed to help mostly except it still flares when i decelerate to below 20mph then re accelerate without stopping. Is this normal? is this what is called imitation flare? or should i keep working on it?

Thanks for all the help
