Default Engine RPM hang when throttle is released while accelerating

1997 Accord LX, F22B2, 5spd MT, 203,530 miles

No load the engine revs and drops back to idle just fine. While accelerating the engine rpm hang within a few hundred revolutions of my shift point. For example if I rev the engine to 3,000 rpm, release the throttle and depress the clutch the rpm hang around 2,800 to 3,000 rpm.

I've checked and adjusted the throttle and cruise control cables, The throttle body is spotless as I've cleaned it about 4 times now. The spark plugs are NGK, the wires are NGK, the cap and rotor are OE and all have been replaced within the last 5,000 miles.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Have you tried putting a little grease on the throttle cable?

Maybe clutch? Is that 203K miles on the original clutch? Do you notice if it ever slips (like the RPMS go up but the speed stays the same)? Good luck tho man!

The throttle cable, accelerator pedal pivot and the throttle body have all been cleaned and lubed using Starrett M1 lubriacant. Everything seems to work very freely and the engine only hangs while under load. If I rev the engine while I'm not moving the rpm drop back to idle instantly.

Thank you for your reply. Does anything else come to mind?

I can't say for sure if the clutch is the original clutch or not. We've only owned the car for last 10,000 miles. We picked it up from a dealer on Ebay and we've been very pleased with it. The price couldn't be beat either. The previous owner must have been as picky as we are. The interior is perfect, not one stain to be found. The same can be said for the exterior.

Back to the clutch. It does not slip and believe me I've tried to make it slip. It may not be the fastest Honda out there but it sure feels like a race car when compared to driving my Nissan Pathfinder.

Thank you for your reply. Do you have any other suggestions?
