hey guys, so my accord was curbed several months ago and the front crossmember was bent. i have decided to remove the front crossmember and replace it with another one. however, while trying to remove the crossmember i have encountered an issue with the steering axle. the steering axle is located directly underneath the crossmember and in order to get the crossmember off i need to get the steering out of the way first.

i have no idea how to get the steering out of the way. does any one know how or what i should do?

You should use a shop manual for a job like this. It requires that you disconnect the steering column from inside the car, the tie rods and the power steering lines.

as Ghost said, you should use a shop manual for this job.

but in short you have to remove the outer tie rod end from one side (lets say driver side) and turn the steering wheel all the way to the left, this gives you the room to drop one side of the steering rack and slide the other end out. Before dropping you need to mark and disconnect the steering column which is accessed by a rubber boot near the floor inside the car and also disconnect the power steering lines from the steering rack.

hey guys thanks for the advice. and the manual was a lot of help too. i was able to get the steering rack completely free and now the only thing hold the steering rack and front crossmember up to the car is a few bolts in the very middle of the crossmember.



the only issue is the bolts are extremely difficult to access. they are above the crossmember (in between the crossmember and the intake manifold)
i dont know how to get them off. im so close to finally dropping the entire piece but i cant seem to get the last few bolts.

any ideas/suggestions/tips??

I don't have my manual in front of me but it almost sounds like you are referring to the rear motor mount. Have you removed the bolt that connects the rear motor mount to the bracket on the engine? That would be easier than removing the bolts to the motor mount itself.

IIRC, If you were to remove the intake tubing from the throttle body you should be able to get at the engine bolt touringaccord referred to.

hey guys i've been really busy so I haven't been able to post much but I finally got everything freed up and the crossmember is ready to come down. the only issue is the cable in the picture. it's literally the only thing preventing me from getting the crossmember out from under the car.

does any one know what the cable goes to? and how can i get it out of the way?

That's the shifter cable, don't yank/place weight on it or you may damage the housing. You can remove it by removing the three bolts that secure the aluminum cover for it on the transmission housing, place it into N(IIRC) to have direct access to the bolt(theres a slot to line up the bolt with) bend the locking tabs back, remove bolt with 10mm socket(IIRC), then pull cable out of the way.

i got it. I HAVE FINALLY SUCCESSFULLY REMOVED THE FRONT CROSSMEMBER AND STEERING RACK. thank you every one for all of the help. i might be posting in here again when i put it back together
