Do fuel injectors make a quiet clicking sound while idling?...
When I pop my hood and put my head close to the valve cover I can hear a bunch of very faint clicking (I wouldn't have even heard it if I hadn't been listening for vacuum leaks all over the engine bay...sound is coming right around the fuel rail or valve cover).
1) Do fuel injectors opening and closing at idle (it sounds like a lot of small things clicking softly together)
2) Or - god, please say no - the valves are clicking against their seals
3) Something worse (just shoot me in the head already, this car's driving me nuts)
Thanks!

relax.....if anything, its your valve springs that got loosened up.... 50-75$ job done in 30 min or so
BTW is your motor stock? what mods if any are u running? clean the injectors, inspect oil level, check all 4 sparkplugs AND wires....if everything looks good just tighten the valvesprings

Re:
our motors tend to sound like sewing machines no matter what imo.
my injectors click loudly, pcv clicks, and the valves need constant adjustment when you often run to redline.
in fact I need a valve ajustment but I am expecting to pay more like 40-50$... I have a honda mech friend who will do it for me.

In answer to your question, YES. Poppet style Injectors have a perceptable click, but are not used on Hondas'. Poppet style are used in conjunction with high pressure injector pumps (early 327 Corvette) and present day Diesels.
Honda's are electronic, and operate silently.
What you're hearing is misadjusted cam followers. (too much valve lash)
P
ps: between 105.00 - 140.00 depending on repair facility

for the extra $30 are you gonna skimp? I'd rather not take my car back because it is leaking oil from a gasket. My car has nearly 135K on it and all of those gaskets were original so the extra $30 is definately worth the peice of mind.

If you don't know how to change your own valve cover gasket then I would not recommend doing much further mods yourself. IMO. I am not neccessarily talking about you YeuEm. Just in general.

Re: (sauceja)
Dude, I know how to change a valve cover gasket but what we are saying is:
If you are going to get a valve adjustment as required every 30K (5th gen) why not spend the little extra to replace all of the seals and gasket? That way you don't have to worry about your car leaking oil because you were too cheap to replace the gasket and seals when you got the valves adjusted. The only thing they should charge you for is the kit since they are already doing the labor part in order to get to the valves.
Take the time to change it myself or spend the extra $30 to have it done when they are adjusting valves. I know what route I will take

Re: (YeuEmMaiMai)
injectors *do* click - especially aftermarket ones, you should hear my 750cc injectors at idle - CLACK CLACK CLACK, people always ask me what the clicking noise is it's so loud.

I was not implying like I said previously that you in general don't know how. Just that if someone doesn't know or feel comfortable doing that then they should stop right there.
Yes I definately agree that any time you pull the cover to replace or at least clean everything and reapply gasket sealer at the corners and make sure there are no leaks.
At 30k that would be around 2 1/2 to 3 years on average so no 30.00 for gasket is not bad at all.
If you were to put a stethoscope to the injectors you will hear if they are working by listening to the clicking sound.

Are you sure, I thought that was how to check if the injectors are working, listen for the clicking sound. But with a stethescope on each injector.
