Icon2 1990 Accord LX sudden engine death

Hi! Recently am having issues with engine dying. First time , started engine, put in reverse, died. Then able to start up right away. Several days later, about 3 miles down the road at approx 35 mph, it is like someone turned off key. No warning lights or sputtering, just off. After coasting to the side of road, and into parking lot,I tried to restart and it fired up right away, allowing me to finish drive home. Drove for a couple days with no problem, then again it happened when backing out of garage. Died then was able to start and continue to work( about 5 miles) This is a low mileage (36000) 4 cyl automatic. Overall great little car, but beginning to wonder what is happening to cause this? Any ideas?

Sounds like an electrical problem. When the car dies, what do you notice about the gauge cluster? Do the dash lights go out? Or, do they all come on as though you have turned the key to the 'ON' position?

Such low miles I would wonder what work was done to the vehicle recently. Could be an issue with a faulty repair such as a battery replacement. Ignition switches fail on these vehicles but with low miles it is not as likely.

Regardless of speculation to the complaint of 'vehicle dies intermittently' the problem is electrical.

Hi, I didn't really pay attention to the dash and gauges at the time, especially when I was going down the road. I was trying to get myself into a safer position and not concentrating on the dash. I will try to remember to focus on those when it happens next time (and most likely it will ! ) It just caught me off guard each time because it doesn't give warning ahead.
