My brother and I are trying to fix my car. We purchased 2 different Honda Accord books but neither gives us the info we need. Basically, I just need a diagram that shows me how the vaccum lines need to be attached. Car starts great but the idle is high. In first gear, runs fine until you give it gas where then it bogs for a half second then idles super high. This is not flooring the gas. My brother knows more than I do about mechanics, and we both seem to think that the vacuum lines are our best bet. We have tried the idle screws with little success, I have read other posts referring to the idle control valve, which we are going to try next. I really would like to know if someone can send me a link to a diagram that can help us check the vacuum lines and make sure we have them correct. Thanks for your time and any help you can give.

I think even back in '89 they were required to have a sticker somewhere in the engine compartment with a little picture of the hoses. It might be gone or painted over, but did you look for it?

Actually yes, and I think you are right...its gone. There are other diagrams and stuff, for other things. We didnt think of that at first but once we noticed it had some, we checked them all out. Thanks though. I work on computers and the first rule I learned was K.I.S.S. (Keep it simple stupid) and that definatley was good advice. My brother thinks of these things, me however....

Still looking for a diagram if anyone can help. I have looked elsewhere on the message board using the search, and although I havent found a diagram, I have found a wealth of other information that has proved useful. I really just want to make sure the vacuum lines are correct. Thanks.

I got the same problem. I just bought mine today with 66000k mi on it. Carb'd.

I was driving today, and when done driving for about 20min or so. I put in nutral and it revs SUPER HIGH. WHAT IS THE DEAL?????

i am assuming it is an automatic tranny when you say u tried idle screws which ones did you try?? all 3 of them??? ,,idle control valve is located inside emission box, it supplies vacc to hose # 21 when car is unler load.. headlites on, car in gear ....it goes to the diapram on rt side of carb whre the a;c adjustment is as well ... there is a precedure to adjust idle on an auto tranny ..........

back off the adjust at back of carb to 600,, adjust the screw at left side of carb from frt of carb to 700, adjust rear screw to 750-800,, put headlite on . car in drive adjust rt side screw to 750-800, put car in neutral put a/c on adjust the little **** on back of rt side diaphram to 750-800,,,, u got to do it in that sequence for load and a;c adjustment hose # 21 has to have vacc to diaphram otherwise you cannot adjut idles if no vacc idle control solenoid most likely no good ,, if so disconnect hose 21 from going to metal tubing and just give it vacc from a different source ....
