Could my gas guage be off?
It seems like my tank has been dropping fast lately. I had filled put in four or five gallons when I was pretty much on E and it put me up to a quarter. Today I completely filled the tank. It took 9.5 gallons and it was full. My gas tank is 17 gallons so I thought it would be a lot more gas. Any ideas?

I've got a '97. When it's on empty (at about 300 city miles on a full tank), it'll take 12 gallons. I've gone as far as about 350 miles of around-town driving on one tank, and it'll take about 14 gallons then. If it truly is a 17 gallon tank, I should be able to go at least 400 miles of city driving, but I haven't been willing to risk running the tank too low. I don't want to run the fuel pump dry.
Every time I fill the tank up, the gas gauge needle is consistently just below full.

You're gas light will be on by the time you devoured about 15-15.5 gallons (est based on me travelling 25miles before I filled up and my fill up amount). I've driven on my gas light in NC for a good day (granny mode!) and filled it up with 16gallons. That was the losing power around moderate turns kind of low.
Also my gas gauge has done the same (7/8 but never full) no matter how long I let it sit.
